refile the i485 packet and be prepared to submit it once you verify that was the reason. there is little chance of appeal when it is not a uscis mistake  and as you have just stated you forgot to send in what was requested.

No, because the mistake was yours, not USCIS'.

 

You need to re-file your I-485, I-131, I-765, and I-864 together with all supporting documents and new fees again.

You can only reopen the case if USCIS made a mistake.  When the mistake is yours, you can not reopen.  You must refile everything again and pay the fees again.

Try to schedule an infopass. With this appointment , you will be able to go into your Uscis office in your state and talk to an officer who may be able to assist you in reopening your i485. If they say you can't, then your only option would be to refile i485 and i765. It is quite weird that they closed your i485 and you had no idea, usually you should have gotten a letter in the mail explaining their reasons for closing your case.

Start getting the funds up to refile if able. Seems like the most painless way to fix this minus the pain on your bank account

That's why you need to follow the instructions very well...Not doing so can be very expensive.
