Can I visit my husband (us citizen) in the US while I wait for my green card to be approved?

So disappointed this morning to read that K-3 visa is not really an option anymore.   

 

I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is a US citizen.  He leaves for Minnesota at the end of June for a Job Offer. 

 

My question is....can I visit my husband in the US while we wait this process out? Once I file I-R1, can I cross the border to see him?
