I posted a while back about help with our affidavit, which was returned to us as incorrect and we were told to resubmit it.

Well we filled it out again, but the address they've told us to send it to is the USCIS center in Missouri. Everything else we've submitted has gone to Chicago, and our closest center is actually Vermont (we're in Massachusetts)

Can anyone think of a reason they would want the affidavit (the original of which was submitted to Chicago) to be sent to Missouri, or have they made a mistake somewhere?

I sent it off to the address they told me, but I'm worrying now that it's wrong.

I don't want to confuse things by sending a copy to Chicago when they haven't asked me to.

The woman on the helpline said I could send one to Chicago too 'If it would make me feel better', and confirmed that Chicago was coming up on the computer as the place to send things for my area, but that I should do as the letter said and send it to Missouri.

Has anyone else had this happen?

What should I do!?

At the risk of sounding rude: Just do what they tell you. They gave you an address to return it to, why would you think it is wrong? Send the RFE to the address they tell you to.

Your case is currently processing in Missouri, like everyone elses does. Chicago Lockbox is just a mail room, they sort your package and then forward it to the MSC for preprocessing.

No, you don't sound rude at all! Thank you so much for your help. I guess it seems like an obvious question to ask, but getting it wrong the first time has made me second-guess everything I do now.

My suggestion is to read up on how USCIS works. Here are the basics:

You post to Chicago, they sort the stuff into a folder and forward it to the National Benefits Center (which is also known as the Missouri Service Center).

At the MSC/NBC they process your case to a certain point. EAD and AP are processed to completion there. AOS is processed up to a point, at which point its either sent to your local office for interview, or to the California Service Center for approval without interview.

Every piece of mail you will get in from USCIS will come from Missouri, including the Green Card itself.
