K1 visa sponsor I-864 - married or maiden name?

Hello everyone,

 

I am working on the I-864. I am sponsoring my husband from a K1 visa. I am confused as to what to use for my name! I thought my married name, but you have to supply proof of citizenship and I assume they want a picture of my passport, which has my maiden name. I can wait on my social security card for proof of citizenship, but don't want to wait to change my other ID before we submit. I have not yet changed my name, but plan to in the near future. Which name is safest to use?  How do I navigate the name change and make sure my paperwork processes effectively?

You can provide a copy of your marriage certificate along with a copy of your passport's bio page to show that you have changed your name.

10/06/2016 - Got an interview date!                        06/14/2017 - Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for Interview            12/10/2019 - Fingerprint Review Was Completed

11/06/2016 - Scheduled the medical!                       08/03/2017 - Interview is Scheduled                                           04/22/2020 - Case Was Received At My Local Office

01/11/2017 - POE!!!                                               09/29/2017 - Received I-797 Approval Notice                                                  06/28/2020 - N-400 application window opens!

I won't have my updated passport yet. I'm including that but it will still say my maiden name. Can't change anything without social.

Does your marriage certificate have your new married name on it? It counts as a name change document, so you can include it with your passport in your maiden name to show that you have changed your name.
