Hey all, I decided to hop in today and saw the thread. I'm pulling for the Flyers! Oops, they couldn't even get the No. 1 pick next year. I've always cheered for Canadian teams once the Flyers are out. My wife is pulling for the Flames, since the Leafs aren't around. I don't know who I'm going to go with...I think the Sens, since the Habs also aren't in it.

Hey, just heard that the Atlanta Thrashers have made the Stanley Cup Play-offs. I'm not a hockey fan, but it was kind of cool listening to the lovely French-Canadian accent of the Thrasher's coach talking about their upcoming games.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I don't get Versus, damn it!! lol Good old barton house!! I signed up for NHl center Ice online!! $49 for the playoffs, BUT one doesnt get al the games!! last night I was able to watch 2 out of the 4!! First 1 was the San Jose game, and I THINK I coul dhave watched the Minnesota game, but it came on way to late for me!! Of course the two games I wanted to watch (the Senator game and the vancouver game) i was unable to watch!!

Another option for us canucks to watch Candian TV is SLINGBOX http://www.slingmedia.com/indexa.php

I belive you have to hook thi sup to someone back in canada and then you can watch whatever they are watching!! Another option is buying a second cable box (for the place in Canada) then you can watch whatever!! You watch it on ur computer!! Sound slike a very good option. I think the slingbox itself is around $180 But there are no monthly fees. This centre online pkg cost me $49, I was thinking of signing up for curltv.com pkg, and I think that is a yearly fee of $100, so it doesnt take long to pay for itself!! I do belive, both you and the person back in canada both have to have high speed internet, something to think about, and if anyone knows anymore about this, please chirp up!!

Yes it is nice going to a game with real fans! Yes there are real fans in DC, but they # less than 4! Been to a few Oiler and Flames home games and the buildings were electric, same in Tampa 2 yrs back!! Not so much in DC! lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah, not so happy I have Versus anymore after what I had to watch last night. But I guess that's not really the cables fault, lol. Sorry about the Flames. The Islanders loss was only made more painful by the fact that the Rangers won. God I hate them.

Better luck on Saturday!

Talking to my parents, the Flames were lucky to have only lost by 3 goals!! Were totally outplayed!! Oh well, it is only 1 game!! Last night on center ice online I was able to watch 3 out of games BUT of course the only game I did want to see (flames, duh) was not an option, lol

Damn I couldn't even tell you who is in the playoffs!

I think I am a bad Canadian. :o The only NHL game I have ever attended was in Miami, Florida - Florida Panthers vs Tampa Lightning!

Please don't beat me with a hockey stick. I did go to Wheatie games and was in University with Marty Murray and Wade Redden. Oh, and my cousin is married to Kevin McCarthy - assistant coach to the Hurricanes (and they did win the cup last year). Maybe I can remain Canadian after all! :P

Oh, but curling rules!

Yeah, the few minutes I saw of the game were not the Flames' best. But as you say, it's only the first game. Am thinking positive thoughts for the Islanders next game too.

If you need to, you guys can always come visit friends at the BH for the next Flames game. *wink*

As for curling, it's always intrigued me. What can be better than shuffleboard on ice?! And there is a league somewhere in the DC metro area. I just need to get more motivated and find out more.

Took my wife there last yr. when they had an open house. She loved to watch it on TV, so she thought it would be cool to try. She soon relaized it was a lot harder than she thought it would be!! I love curling, throw rocks, and drink beer!! And the winners buy! lol

My wife is just returning from 2 weeks in Dallas, don't think she would be pleased if I took off to see the Flames play, lol

AUGH!!!!!! My Thrashers were whipped by the Rangers last night. Joel had a little smile on his face at that one...of course he has to be a Rangers fan. Oh well, that was JUST game one. They needed to warm up a bit is all. Yeah, that's it...had to warm up a bit. Thank goodness this is the only time when we cheer for opposite teams. ;)
