2 years before starting the I-129F???

OK, me and my fiance just got engaged last month. And we only knew each other for only a couple months now. But the form I-129F required the relationship to start two years ago. Does this mean we have to wait two more years before qualifying for the I-129F form? We're planning to get married in a year time frame. A few people I know got married after a couple months of seeing each other. Is there a time frame in marriag in order to qualify. Other proof of contacts. The only way we can communicate is through the phone calls and I used the phone card to call her almost everyday in order to save some money of course. So there's no proof of records in calling. I would write her an email everyday if she have access to the internet. another bummer. I can speak the native language, but I can't write. So it's useless for us to be writing letters to each other. No proof of letters. The only proof we have is photographs that we took and of course the phone card that I've used. And so I heard that they won't accept phone cards anymore for proof. I'm currently applying for my US citizenship. I also heard that you don't have to be a citizen to petition for your fiance. Is this true? If so can I start the petitioning process?

You only have to show that you have met within that 2 years. It dont matter if that was a month before filing or 18monts before filing. As long as you can show with evidence that you have met, that is what is required.

There is no qualifying period in order to file after a marriage.

In order to petition for a fiance the petitioner must be a USC or Naturalized.

Hi,

You don't have to know your fiance for 2 years before you apply for K1. I knew mine 7 months when I applied.

You do have to be a citizen. It's a requirement.

Do you have plane ticket stubs? Hotel bills? Credit card receipts for when you were there? These all help. But do find a way to call her to keep records. I hope someone can help u with this...I just don't now how.

Pictures are perfect to have for your case. Send as many as you have. I sent about 15 copies of our pictures.

Good luck.

The only evidence I have is the plane ticket and the many photos we took during our engagement ceremony and from some many trips we took while I was down there. Thanx for the input. She's currently learning how to use the computer studying english and hopefully we can start writing each others emails before I can start the petitioning process. Hopefully I can get my NOA for my citizenship testing soon. God I'm missing her everyday :crying: .

In the mean time look at ways of strengthening evidence that you will send in to support the fact that you have met. Can you visit with her again, this time keeping boarding passes, and anything else whilst there, such as hotels receipts, credit card purchases etc. Other then photos is there anything else that documents your engagement. Waiting is hard but you will get there (F)

My home country is not as modernise as the rest of the world, but it's getting there. So having a hotel reciet or other purchasing reciet is out of the question. Although the only time I've recieved a reciet is by purchasing with my credit card and that I have. Also I have a couple luggage claim stickers and a couple boarding passes. I won't be going back there any time soon, not till next year or so. I hate to have to request for another vacation due to my recent time off from work. And I just don't have the money for another trip back. The only other thing that documented our engagement is some paper work that we did while I was over there. It's an engagement paper sign and stamped by the district/village leaders. Other than that no. As for our rings it was passed down from my mother and her.

Right at the present I would say that you have enough evidence, including the engagement paper signed. What you must keep in mind though is that all of that evidence means nothing if by the time you file it falls outside of the 2 years prior to the petition being submitted to the service center.

You'll just have to wait patiently... and if things take too long then you'll have to make another visit to Cambodia, and make sure you keep your itinerary, boarding passes etc - anything that proves you went there. Some people take a photo together with their fiance holding up a newspaper, or in front of a sign or bulletinboard etc because that provides a way of dating the picture.

I hope you won't have to wait two years for your citizenship though!

How long will that take? Just curious...I thought I remember reading somewhere that to become a citizen takes about 5 years? Marriage to a USC cuts down that time to 3 years.

Since he indicated that he applied, and I'm familiar with the same office, I'd make a guesstimate of less than 6 months (if fingerprints clear on schedule).

POO will do same-day oath ceremonies if you have a morning appointment. Otherwise, it's next-day (you don't become a citizen after a successful interview until you are sworn in with the oath ceremony).

The OP must have already been a PR for 5+ years to have been eligible to apply.

I have been a permanent residence for 13 years now. My brother just got his citizenship after only 3 1/2 month of applying. Hopefully my case is that fast. I already know all the answer to the 100 question they have

as far as evidence go on my latest trip to cambodia, I just obtained some more boarding passes, hotel reciet, and some more credit card reciet . <--I have to thank my mom on these one for bringing it back with her. As far as photos go I got stashes of it sitting here with me. After looking through those picture I just realize that it's just not the same when she's not around me :crying:

Ok guys/gals is it alright to make coppies of the reciet, boarding passes, etc. to send in with the application? Or are they really picky and just wanted the original copy of everything that's needed for evidence?
