We went to see Dunkirk, it is possibly the worst war film ever made.

I know it's not helpful to you all right now but a hysterectomy is the best surgery I ever had ( didn't think so at the time, I was under 30 and it followed what they call a traumatic birth )

That was disappointing to hear. I've only heard people say how good it was.

Nah, I'm hoping to have some kids first :)

What's going on in Mexico City? it's been grey and raining every day for months now.

I like that it's cooler than usual, but it's just making me moody and depressed.

Anyway just one more week before I go back to Cozumel and enjoy the beach for a bit.

In America?  Brave of you with our lack of maternity leave benefits.

I get the feeling that if I was the Danish half of our relationship and still had lady parts, I would have insisted we stay in Denmark.

I'm planning on being a stay at home mom for at least a year... I'm more nervous about the high maternity death in this country... But it's not that better in Sweden. Sure in Sweden I could have been home with the child until it's 18 months but then there's no guarantee I will be delivering in Sweden... All maternity wards are full or shut down. We currently have one Swedish woman in Finland because there's no room for her. In some parts in the northern regions they are teaching the parents how to deliver in a car in case they don't reach the nearest hospital which is faaaaaaar away.

Here is one article. There's a ton out there as well as reports you can read if you feel like it.

Story of my life.  If we have a storm and I go into labor, I'm effed where I live.  Some other parts of MN are worse, they have a 2-3 hour drive to a maternity hospital.  It has to do with the high malpractice insurance rates for l&d.

Well, for a developed country, but they attribute that often due to things like the high obesity rate and such.  A c-section on a 350lb woman is of course much risker than a midwife delivery with a 120 lbs woman who regularly exercises.

I thought you meant the child...

Ok that's hardly the "investigative" report that it claims to be.

When are these deaths occurring the most? Anesthesia? From C-sections? We do more of that than anyone else you know...

Then, there is also the c-section rate in general.  Let's say my uterus ruptures after my two c-section and I'm not in a large hospital....there is a fairly good chance I am going to die.  If it happens at home, I will die.

There is also the fact that there is such a high focus on the baby that they forget the mother. Recently a woman died of preeclampsia shortly after delivery because the doctor had not recognized her high blood pressure that she had throughout her pregnancy.

There are plenty of reports out there. I can't find the one I looked at before but I'll try to find it.

Most of these investigative reports are poorly written with the minimal statistics. You have to look at the Medical journals and places like HHS, US library of medicine, places like that...

I know. And I can't find it. I think it was CDC who published it but their website is confusing.
