In high school, you just kinda buy it as you go?

I don't rememeber. I think they may get a list from each class if its specific ? Or maybe it's just "bring binders, pens, pensils, and stop being stupid."

It was rather like college - you figure out what you need to bring.

Well, except when laptops were mandatory.

We've got to buy stuff other than school supplies too, like tissues and bandaids, etc.  It isn't mandatory, but the teachers don't get paid that well and the school district has a shoestring budget.

The teachers here are among the highest paid in the nation. But I know they buy s lot of stuff out of their own pockets. We encourage the parents,  get them visa cards in lieu of other gifts for various occasions.

And the kids school provide bottled water as well. But students are asked to bring their own.

They're discouraged from using the water fountain.

Some NYC schools failed the lead tests last year. Filters are being installed in all schools.

Breakfast and lunch is now free for all students in NY state also.

Hey NY is actually pretty cool for a flaming lib state.

Our budget is managed very well. Like a more conservative state.

Yeah I think they're old enough to go get what they need as they go.

The difference is, in the lower grades, the supplies are pooled.

Kiddo hasnt had pooled supplies since kindergarten.

Except for a similarly priced house, the property taxes in a superb school district in CT are like half the price.

The property tax burden when we lived in NY was a big struggle for some families.
