Don't you have A/C in your penthouse, huh D2 ma'am?!

Nope, almost no apartment in Mexico City comes with A/C. Not even ceiling fans.

Now global warming is making the experience quite charming

cdneh, thanks for the sharing your m-i-l story, and you have my sympathies in your struggles in dealing with it. It actually sounds very similar to the last 3 years of my father's life who passed away last year, just one year after my mother passed. It's really opened my eyes. I always assumed that I could face death with dignity, but from what I can see, it's far easier said than done.

It is true for some that they return back to the state in which they were younger ... toddler-like and belligerent and then infant like before death.

I've always thought it might be nice to pick a certain time period ahead of time that you'd like to die, like when your mental capacities begin to go, but the legalities of that are tricky.

My father, who remained in a wheelchair through most of his last couple of years, would try to bite PT's, OT's and nurses who he didn't care for. Again, his speech was impaired so this is how he communicated anger.

Yeah, I hear you. Then again, when I feel it's time to go, I'll probably try to migrate to a state like Oregon which has liberal laws in this regard.

I'm always saddened that we give our pets more dignity at the end of their days than we do our fellow humans, never made much sense to me

My own Mum, after being placed in secure care because she wandered, became a screamer. No reason for it, she could be sitting all by herself happy as, and then off she would go. Hair raising shrieks, quite distressing for the staff and patients around her. I've often thought it's a form of 'roodle'.  I worked in pre hospital care, then in Triage for years, and we could usually guess who was on their way in, or already in at the start of a shift,  by their roodle. So named, because one elderly man continually in and out of hospital could only say that single word, over and over and over again. Some roodles are actual words, some are mainly gibberish, but it is a form of repetitive persistence. Bafflegab.

Once she stopped doing that, she used to list all of her brothers and sisters names from youngest to eldest, all 12 of them, and in about 10 seconds. And she counted to ten in the same way.

She would spit food at the person feeding her, if it was something she didn't fancy, and she was a pincher. Not safe for some to get within arms length.

She's had nothing to say at all now for years. She is  in fact not actually  really conscious. She may go on for years that way, it's entirely possible.

It really does rob the  patient of their dignity, while they are aware of their decline. When they are no longer aware, then it becomes harder of the family.

My MIL is aware she is declining, and it makes her understandably angry.  No problem has ever been insurmountable for her,  she was always able to throw enough money at it to make it go away. That won't work here, you cannot buy immortality, and I think she genuinely believed she would have been immune to the problems of the hoi polloi. She's always had a tendency to using the sharp twisty tongue as a weapon, and that is the trait we are seeing for the most part now.

I've  also has noticed the absence of her "church friends".  I know she got canned from her volunteer hospital job for having outbursts of temper, for getting lost, and for  insisting she could invoke the 2nd amendment and carry while there. I know her volunteer shift at the church thrift shop went the same way. So I wonder what she did to offend the church ladies, who would ordinarily be so thick on the ground around one of their own.  In her email, I've seen one prayer request in the last five weeks, directed at her by name, sent to over 200 people, with no response at all.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

It is. Her Husband was a Minister, and the two of them are absolutely the worst bigots posing as good christians I have ever seen.  I was astonished at some of the things they would say out loud. She's lost her filter lately, so she may have been spouting off around people who don't share her very narrow minded opinion.

For dinner, Tiff Mrs. T-B. served sauteed chicken breast, ingest man.

Played a game with Mini-B., invented by Mini-B., with use of Hot Wheels cars, inventive wee man.

Mini-B. then wanted peanuts that Mrs. T-B. had bought him, snacker wee man.

They turned out to be in the shell, some disassembly required man.

We & Mini-B. sat on couch, disassembling peanut shells and eating like pigs, bachelor bonding man.

Even fed nuts & shells to the cat, ingest miu man.

Some shell components actually made it into the bowl meant for the purpose, horseshoes & hand-grenades man.

When ingestation finished, both we & Mini-B. were covered in peanut debris, satisfying experience man.

So were couch and floor, bachelor bonding man.

We ignored Mrs. T-B.'s later squawking protestations when she beheld the above, too bad she man.

Father-son interaction rules, see man.

And we didn't even have to leave the casa or pay for baseball-game tickets for this, heaven man.

Took dog on 4 mile walk yesterday.  Friend says Im crazy.  Americans i swear! 4 mile walk in town about 1.25 hrs = crazy.  Go for walk in woods for 5 hours = okay!

5 yr wedding anniversary on Saturday.

Hubs says yesterday, I think I want a normal phone, not smart phone; they're too expensive.  Last year he went out and bought some grandfathered in unlimited plan from verizon that is rather expensive.  Not sure why he bothered if he didn't want a smart phone! So we pay MORE each month but he did this because he wanted to be able to tether his laptop to his data plan without it dropping down from 4G.  I can't recall the number of times I've heard this in the last 3 years but it never happens.  Either way he's welcome to but I happen to enjoy my phone in all its smartness.

Also had people tell us how much to put new siding on the house and maybe new windows. We'd have to refinance for that to happen even with some discounts. It was a superinsulated siding too that would save money heating and cooling in the long run. Considering our house is worth more than our original mortgage we may be able to the whole exterior.  Hubs seems to think we could redo the kitchen too but too many renovation shows have taught me that a kitchen costs about what the entire exterior would cost.

Before we moved, I often went on walks that long and so did a lot of other people who I'd see out walking along the ocean roads.  The town I live in now is only one square mile or so, so 2 miles is kind of my limit for what I want to do.

Kitchen renovations are super expensive unless you do the work yourself and buy Ikea cabinets, but that might not be an upgrade on what you have.
