Remember there is no such thing as sponsorship for B2 visa applicants - they must qualify on their own merits and documents alone will not do the job. With pretty much only distant family at home, but close family in the US, her chances are slim, but not impossible.

You can't sponsor/ file for her, she needs to do that herself.

You can write a letter saying you will pay for her plane ticket and she can stay with you, but she is the one that needs to apply for the visa, and show ties to home, or at least convince the CO she won't stay illegally.

I wasn't aware that a relative living in the US could finance a plane ticket for a family member looking to get a visitor visa. Is this true?

To be clear- having funds to buy and finance your own trip CAN be a positive. But the consular officers do understand that there is often a large income difference betwen US based relatives and relatives living in poor countries.  The US relative paying for the plane ticket is normal, and accepted.

That's good to know as I have been getting conflicting information from others saying that an applicant who is perceived to not be able to fund their trip is seen as a negative and could hurt their chances of getting a visa.

Saw a father of a LPR on another forum apply 7 times for a visitor visa. I can't remember if he was approved on the 7th try or not. But it was a span of over a few years.

I'll probably be applying for the 4th time sometime in the next year or so, my chances of success are small but a geek like me can't sit back when a huge Star Wars attraction is opening at Disneyworld without at least attempting to be able to visit!

The visa fee is insignificant compared to the costs of time off work, travelling to London and hotels, just to spend an hour or two in an embassy waiting room!

I'm sure it's the same in most countries for people who don't live near an embassy.

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process
