Question for Tunis

Hello,

Maybe this belongs in the MENA forum but not sure. Anyway I am an American citizen and will be filing to bring my Tunisian fiancee over on the k-1 visa. I have a question though about interviews: they're only done by Americans right? My fiancee is a bit worried that maybe she will get a tunisian who will not like the circumstances of our relationship or won't like her personally (she isn't muslim, has a few small tattoos on her arm, has been living with me in Tunis, etc). Are such judgmental attitudes a thing to fear during the interview, or should she not worry about this? We fulfill all the other criteria for the visa, she just doesn't want to be denied for Tunisian cultural reasons. Thanks

All interviews with CO's are done with Americans.

Now, that being said, a lot of embassies have local nationals who work in the embassy and they generally handle the initial greetings and handling of paperwork prior to the interview.

08/15/2014 : Met Online

06/30/2016 : I-129F Packet Sent

11/08/2016 : Interview - APPROVED!

11/23/2016 : POE - Dallas, Texas

From sending of I-129F petiton to POE - 146 days.

02/03/2017 - Married

02/24/2017 - AOS packet sent

06/01/2017 - EAD/AP Combo Card Received in mail

12/06/2017 - I-485 Approved

12/14/2017 - Green Card Received in mail - No Interview

I'm just worried someone in the embassy (a local) will have our file and think 'why is a tunisian girl no longer muslim and wanting to marry an american guy, i don't like this' because it's how a lot of people here think so I don't want it to affect our visa process otherwise we easily fulfill all requirements

My fiancé in Morocco got a lot of questions about why he didn't want a Moroccan girl. It might happen. Yes, it's irrelevant to us but it could still happen. She could just cover her arms so her tattoos don't show

They could ask her about her religion too, especially in a country like that. Just practice answering questions with her.

My fear though is if they ask her if she's muslim and she says no, if that will count against her for some reason.

And even though it shouldn't happen, it's possible that it will.

If she was raised Muslim and now does not identify with that, maybe being able to explain why. Did she change her views before or after you two became a couple?

While we all know these these things should be inconsequential in determining the validity of a relationship, the COs don't seem to have any rhyme or reason to those of us going through the process.

Nah she's never really been muslim, so it's not a decision related to me in any way so I'm sure that's okay for them.
