Thank you and no problem, good luck to your wife!

If your papers are all there and correct and you have a real relationship you have nothing to worry about :)
I was happy to find out all the staff were pleasant. I was expecting them to be more like the customs officers who, in my experience, have always been way more strict and grumpy even bordering on downright hostile, lol!

It is as real as it gets and our paperwork are all in order, but we are still a bit nervous about the whole thing. Wife gor her medical exam done this morning and we are wondering if we can email the embassy and request an earlier interview date, if available. In any case, we are pretty close.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to the 2018 Waiting Games.

Congrats @Jamilla !

That does sound easy, and it was. But unfortunately, my interview last week ended up in a request for ability to provide for self in the U.S. The relationship is real, the documents were perfectly fine, we met the income requirement, I have a substantial amount of savings, but still the officer apparently doubted we would be able to support the two of us in California (he said he was speaking out of experience since he used to live there).

I don't want to scare anyone, but please don't book your flights before going to the interview. I just posted as much evidence as possible to the embassy and I'm praying for the best =).

Not to be rude but on every official document it tells you not to book an interview or quit your job before you have your visa so no matter how excited we all are, do not book at all until your visa has been delivered and the visa is printed with the correct information on it (always check otherwise you have to go back).

True, I didn’t book it either, but the guy that had his interview before me did. Though the interview may sound like a ‘formality’, the visa is definitely not guaranteed, even if you feel confident about it. Still, for most people it did go well =).

Oops, I clearly meant ticket and not interview lol

So much can happen after being approved. Depending on the visa volume they might not have your visa ready within 4-8 days. Sometimes an officer can change his mind or ask for more documents after approval because they still hold that right.

Hi everyone!

It's been nice (and helpful) to read about all of your experiences! :) I'm from Utrecht, hoping to be moving to Alabama on the K1 visa. The Consulate just received our application yesterday and I've already gathered most of the required documents. Is there anything else to do from here, or do I just wait until I get package 3 with instructions? How long did it take for you to get that?

Another one in the South! Lately I've noticed that most procedures are being experienced differently than when I had my medical/interview but in 2016, it took me a week to receive packet 3 after the Consulate receiving it.

May I ask how far above the poverty line were you for the two of you? I have savings in the bank, but I didn't include any in my visa application as my income is several times higher than minimum required for sponsorship.

I think you don’t have to worry. My fiancé recently started working (2months) so we had little proof of his income. We were only barely making the poverty line (21k) with little proof. He did have a very expensive house on his name, but since this wasn’t readily available to convert into cash it didn’t count. So, if you’re making more than enough money and have enough proof it should be sufficient. However, my example does proof that ‘just complying with the requirements’ might not be enough.

luckily he’s now making poverty income x3 and we have much proof from that now, so we’re still hoping it’s going to be sufficient now.

I thought a week was fast, but I actually just got packet 3 in the mail today! I was worried it would take a while, but it's been only two days since the Consulate received it.

Oh no, fingers crossed for you!
I'm also moving to California and I have no savings. I guess it depends on the officer?

My fiancé and I just got approved for an apartment and I literally can't wait for my passport to arrive so I can go.
Online my case is still stuck on "ready" I don't know if that's normal and they are just slow to update?

Unless you have 3x the amount of savings that the US petitioner is missing to fulfill the required 125% of the poverty guideline, then there is no way you can receive a visa. It does not depend on the officer, it depends if you eligible to use your (the intending immigrant) savings. For example, if the US petitioner doesn't reach the $20,575 by $5,400, and you have $16,200 in your savings, you can declare that on the I-134/I-864.

Hee! Congrats on your NOA2!

Here a little overview of our process, I hope it helps you:

March 30th; received NOA2 with NVC casenumber, information that our package has been sent to the Embassy in Amsterdam and the request for me to fill out the DS-160.

April 2nd: filled out the DS-160 form and e-mailed the Embassy to ask if any further action was required (no reply every received).

Did you receive your NOA2 on the 30th or the NVC case number on the 30th?

Usually it takes a while to obtain the NVC case number after obtaining the NOA2 so that's why I'm asking.

In my case we just received our NOA2, I will get the NVC case number in a few weeks right?

Also, was the case number needed to file the DS-160 online and moreover would it hurt in anyway if I were to file it before getting the NVC case number?

I'm so confused right now

Same here. Got approved on the 10th, waiting to call NVC to get a number. I think they take about 5 to 10 business days right now to get to NVC?

I already filled out my DS160, I didn't need to enter my NVC number, it asked for my WAC number.

I understood that you can file the DS160 at any time. Its stored digitally and the embassy will be able to retrieve it with the barcode you get after filing it.
