NBC & USCIS

Any idea what is the difference between NBC and USCIS ? What does  NBC  do? 

 

And what does USCIS  do?

 

I know that USCIS received applications and sends NOA receipt ,after that rout it to NBC , but why ? And what will happen to the application  there????

 

Are they just check it in NBC then send it to USCIS local office.....will the NBC determine the fingerprinting date ....it is confusing 

 

Any one know ?

The NBC is the National Benefits Center, formally known as the Missouri Service Center. It's one of the many of the USCIS's centers around the country. They handle many of the AOS applications. Some are approved there and some are sent on to field offices for approval and interviews. They also adjudicate EAD's and AP's.

Thanks, Is it possible to approve N-400 in NBC without sending it to USCIS local office ?

Are they reviewing the application in USCIS or in the NBC ....I mean are they reviewing paper by paper in USCIS ....OR in NBC

All uscis applications are to be sent as directed for the specific form. For N-400 see the instructions or "where to file" https://www.uscis.gov/n-400

Okay to clarify : when USCIS  receives the application , are they checking all pages ? and reviewing if some information wrong like wrong phone number, old version of the application, wrong fees etc...if everything okay, they will send it to NBC ...What does the NBC do? stamp it and send it to local office , or denies it ????   I mean when the USCIS gives receipt number, does that mean 100% you will have fingerprint appointment? or what ?

What does NBC do exactly? 

At the Chicago lockbox they only check that the fee is correct and that all forms are present and the correct version i.e. date. They then mark it as received at the lockbox and this means you will receive a NOA1. The applications are then sent to the NBC and a notification of Biometrics appointment will be sent to you if you receive the NOA1, yes. As I said, the NBC processes some i-485 that are eligible for direct approval and all EAD/AP applications until approval for Chicago lockbox filers. Only interview waiver eligible i-485 applications will be possibly processed completely here ofc. At that point they go through everything in detail - I'm sure they have selection criteria partly based on eligibility and partly based on work-load distribution over the local uscis offices. It wouldn't make sense if they went through all applications in details at this point since there would be no point in sending it to another place for processing if they did. The cases that aren't directly approved are sent on to the local offices at which point the applicant gets an update that "case is ready to be scheduled for interview". At the local office the rest of the applications are processed in full (detail page to page as you put it).. some will receive notice to attend interview and some will get letter of interview waiver.

 

More detail than this is beyond non-uscis staff on exactly how they perform the processing. 

 

PS - they don't check if you have put the wrong phone number - ever.

The NBC is the same status of office like Texas Service Center, California Service center and other national service centers. NBC or used to be called MSC is national service center created after the 9/11. NBC like other national service centers, processes N400 applications & many others.  NBC is assigned some states (just like other national service centers) who will process the N400 applications, EAD, AP, AOS, etc.  Mine for example (N400 application) is assigned at "NBC" as I've seen it in my I-797 receipt of the  Service Center it is assigned/processed.  The local office  will process the applications of applicants once it will pass all the  processing procedures have done  from NBC, and that's the time when the local office will schedule/conduct  for an interview.

If your case/application is assigned at NBC (look up your i-797 receipt if the service center is "NBC"), then the NBC office would be the one who will send schedule of notice for Fingerprint & the location.

it is routed to NBC... but here the question? Are  there  other people their application was sent to different place and why?

I do believe there are and more than likely the reason is the volume of "workload".  Years ago, in my greencard application, I received an I-797C notice of action stating that "my case is transferred to California Service Center" and I knew 2 other people that I worked with having same applications as mine  (same state but different local offices) have been transferred their applications California Service Center as well.  The reason I said "workload" is because the three of us our applications were sitting for like 6-7 months no news  from the original service center of any update .

No, the NBC will enter your application into the USCIS computer system and once your background check and biometrics that they will schedule are complete, they will forward your file to the local field office where your interview will be scheduled and conducted.
