American MA with UK undergrad?

Has anyone here gone on to do a master's level degree with a UK undergrad under their belt?

I've been in the States a year and I'm considering it. I got a 2:1 in politics from a Scottish university -- so I haven't done maths or science literally since I was a teenager. It seems like a lot of the programmes here want proof that you've done university level maths, science, etc. as part of their admissions procedure.

Anyone have any experience with this? Are the prereqs as hard and fast as they seem?

If the MA program you intend to enroll in is in science, you probably need university-level math, but if it's in the humanities, they don't really care too much about math and science.

Have you taken the GREs yet? Get a practice book and do some practice exams, to get used to maths again and earn at least a decent score. Chances are the "university level math" they require is stuff you did in high school.

In the end, your quantitative score will probably not be very important when they evaluate your dossier if you apply for a humanities degree.

You could also contact the specific program you're thinking of applying for and ask them about prereqs. It's probably a good idea to get some insight in the American system so you can do things right.

Just fyi, I got my BA in the Netherlands, no science/math whatsoever, and did grad school in the US (foreign language) no problem. Smaller schools tend to be more flexible than big/prestigious schools.
