I called to check my status in NVC. She told me case was completed yesterday. I asked her if it has been maile to Embassy in Turkey. She told me that they will hold the case in NVC in USA until an appointment scheduled. And they only schedule appointments once a month. And she can not predict which month it will be scheduled. WTH. I thought Embassies scheduled the appointments after they receive your paperwork. Now i just have to sit and wait? I have no way of knowing when it will be scheduled. I am PISSED!!!!!

A few embassies/consulates have their interviews scheduled thru the NVC. It appears that yours is one of those embassies and that the operator did in fact tell you correctly. Interviews are scheduled once a month and then the dates are forwarded to the embassy. Take a deep breath and hopefully your interview will not be too far away.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

I know that but they have all the papers they need it. They looked at it . THE case is completed. So nothing is missing and i have seen lots of people having their papers forwarded to the embassies 2 days after the case was completed. And yes thses people applied for IR / CR1 and they are from Turkey. I have never heard that NVC keeps the papers until they give you an appointment date thing. Maybe i am wrong anybody has any answers to this?

Okay....first of all. Relax.............................

The NVC told me the same thing...............only to find out a few days later when I checked my mail, and have no clue that I was going to be receiving something from the NVC....................that there sitting in my mailbox was an "appointment" letter from the NVC, telling me my wife's interview was going to be in 2 weeks!

Nice of them to keep me so informed..................

Anyways, the point is, they do not always know what is going on with your case, and don't always give you the right information.

I guess on their behalf, it is always better to assume the later date, rather than to tell someone it'll be in just a few weeks etc....then it doesn't happen. They are probably just trying to cover themselves.

I will say this......................and although one can never be 100% sure, were I you..............and you are saying that your case was just completed, if you look at my timeline, ours was completed on the 13th of the month. I am assuming, than since yours was just completed, and it is ALSO, like ours was, completed within the first 2 weeks of the month.......

Well, were I you.................I would be checking my mail every day from now on, because I am guessing your situation is like mine, and you will be receiving a notice in the mail very soon. I would also guess your interview to be around when mine was, near the beginning of next month.

I can only go by my own experience...............and the other things I have read from other members from Turkey, but bottom line................if your case is completed within the first 2 weeks of the month, you will most likely be having an interview within 3 or so weeks from today.

I can sure sympathize with your aggravation. They sure do have a way of bringing that out in us .....................by keeping us in the dark about everything.

And when you try to deal with the Ankara Embassy.......it ain't gonna get any better. (I called REPEATEDLY from 3:30 am to 5 am Monday morning....because that is the ONLY time you can call................and after 90 minutes of dialing....being hung up on......dialing again.....being hung up on because you get disconnected after about 7 rings if no one answers)

After 90 minutes..........I never got through to anyone. They also ignored one of my emails.

So, just try to hang in there.

I personally feel you should be feeling pretty good right now.............because I think you will have an interview near the 1st of next month. (just a feeling...based on my experience).

Good luck.

thank you

It wasn't an email I got. It was an actual package in my mailbox. It contained a cover letter, some pages with more information, directions for the medical exam and a list of doctors that your wife can see in Turkey.

Just want to make sure you understood that it will not be an email. But something in your mailbox.

Also, just to reiterate.....................when I asked the NVC when my wife's appointment was, they also told me something like "the interviews are set up the next month". When I asked them when it would be, they also couldn't tell me a thing. They made it appear like the interview wouldn't be granted, until sometime in May or even later. They were VERY misleading........in how they explained it to us.

So, that was why................based on what the woman told me, that I had NO idea that they were setting up the interview for the 4th of the next month.

In fact, I was so NOT expecting anything, that I didn't even bother to check my mailbox until night time that day.

I had NO clue I was getting sent anything by the NVC.

I actually called my wife up in Istanbul that night......3:00 a.m there, and woke up her and her family, I was so excited.............because my wife and I both thought it wouldn't be until nearly 2 months later that we'd get the interview.

It was such a shock.........

Good idea................just.....umm......don't get yourself arrested, okay? ;)

I thought I'd also let you know , that I just went back and looked, to find the actual date when I got the "appointment package" from the NVC. I received it on March 20.

Being that I had my case completed on March 13, .........that means it took one week to get the notice.

So, depending on when your case was completed, you probably want to do most of your "stalking" sometime early next week. ;)

(I'll keep checking out your timeline. Hope you do indeed get your interview soon, as it appears you will. Good luck on everything.)

Wow, is this the case for everyone who files a ir1/cr1 that they will get their interview date from NVC? My case is from Romania and I can't see to get any answers from anyone here at VJ. It appears that the majority of the VJr from Romania applied for K-1. I have a husband who has been stuck over there since Oct 06 (not long for some people but for us an eternity), and just like D&E to me this has been the worst experiences I have endured. I hate that the fact that our fate is in their hands. But, I'm just curious will this also be the same rule for me?

NVC schedules the interview dates for Turkey, Albania, Canada, Philippines, Lebanon, UAE and the continent of Africa. Romania is not on that list and so it appears your interview is not set up by the NVC.

P.S.......To Dennis. I just noticed you had your case "completion" date on the other timeline that was not in your signature. Don't use that one so much....so didn't look there.

So, if your case was completed on the 10th of this month (on a Tuesday...just like ours)....... I would think your best "stalking" days would be around the 17th

You might want to start camping out around the mailbox, starting Monday.

Will do thank you for all the information. So how is your process going? Did you guys straighten things out in Turkey?

We will find out in the next few days. We sent back the document they asked for, and the passport, on Tuesday. The only worry my wife and I have is about the fact that we just "added" another page to her passport, and it has the "married" name now, which matches the new birth certificate. But we could never tell if the Embassy wanted us to change the passport entirely, or if just adding a page in the married name was sufficient. We are a bit concerned, because I know the USA , with our own passports as US citizens, won't make changes to the passport. They have to issue an entirely new one. In Turkey, for their citizens, they don't make them have to get an entire new passport like we do and still allow them to just make changes.

But...as I wrote above, it is SO hard to get hold of people at the Embassy, even harder than at the NVC, and my wife and I are just a bit worried they'll pick on the fact that we didn't change the whole passport to match the birth certificate name, and only added a page with a photo and the married name. (which unfortunately, the passport agency in Turkey wrote everything in Turkish)

So, who knows................? I tried real hard two days ago to contact the Embassy by phone, with no luck, and also last Thursday wrote an email, which they never responded to. So, we just sent in everything regardless and are now hoping for the best, rather than keep waiting for a response.I want my own wife here.....as much as you do yours, and am tired of waiting.

I have been there......like you are now..............and continue to be until this is all done. Dealing with these government agencies, and trying to get any kind of concrete answer from them is like "pulling teeth". So, I could DEFINATELY relate when I saw your first post and your obvious frustration.

A few other things I forgot to mention.

2-3 days after the completion of our case at the NVC, I called the NVC again, and heard through their automated system that our case was fowarded to Ankara. Keep an eye out for that.

I suggest you call them tommorrow, (if no news, then Friday)...............and see if your case has been fowarded to Ankara. If it has, then I think that is one more step in the right direction, and at that point you should feel more confident you will have your interview soon.

I was able to hear that our case was fowarded just by listening to the automated system. Hopefully you'll be fortunate enough to hear that too.........so you can aviod having to try and get hold of a "live" person at the NVC, which I am sure you know is a big lesson in frustration to be able to even get hold of an operator. (but....be prepared...Ankara is even harder to get hold of if you need to).

Also, I think I need to add that I live in Florida. If you live in New York, so close to New Hampshire.........if you do indeed get an interview in the beginning of May (hopefully)...........then I think you would get mail even sooner than I did down here. We got our packet a week afterwards.......but then again, I am much farther south from the NVC than you are.

Good luck again to you and your wife.

My husband had his passport updated in Turkey so it would be good for the 2 years the K-3 visa is good for, otherwise his passport would have expired before we have his CR-1/IR-1 interview. We showed the page that added the "extra" year to his original passport and the embassy was fine with the change made to it.

Hope you hear something soon from the embassy and your wife can come home soon.

Michele & Omer
