N-400 before I-751 is Finished - Send I-751 Related Documents?

Hi there, I hope everyone is hanging in there.

I thought this thread could be a good place to gather information for everyone submitting N-400's before adjudication of the N-751 is completed.

If you hop on over to the N-400 board on VJ, you won't find anything particularly helpful for people in our situation. The N-400 instructions only say to provide a copy of the green card, front and back. There doesn't seem to be any requirement about showing an extension letter (since our two year green cards are already out of date) -- or a passport stamp, if you have gotten one.

Can others who have done the N-400 before I-751 has been processed please respond with what you did. Did you provide any additional documentation? I thought we could send in the proof that we did the biometrics for the I-751, as well as the notice of action. We won't be able to get the passport stamp until after the N-400 has been sent (1 month before extension letter expiration, vs 3 months before).

Do you think it would be a good idea or not to mention the situation with the I-751 in a cover letter? (Maybe in hopes this would make them process the I-751 faster).

Any other thoughts on the matter?

Thanks all, and best of luck!

I was in this situation a couple months ago. There was no difference for me waiting a few more months before applying for N400, so I keep things safe and just waited until I received my unconditional green card. That being said, I've read from past posts that people have provided copies of the conditional green card and the NOA extension letter, and it was sufficient.

Regarding explaining your situation on the coverletter, my view is that it wouldn't help or hurt your application, but that's just my limited opinion. I've read that there are people who don't even submit a coverletter, and had no problems. I included one just to make things easier for the reviewer.

Good luck!
