Other names used

We are filing our I-130 petition and are confused about the other names used portion of the application. Does anyone know if legal documentation is required to reflect the past name and current name of either the petitioner or the beneficiary? Please, help clarify.

if the name on the birth certificate is different than names used on other legal documents, then yes, you should provide legal documentation explaining the name change (maybe marriage/divorce certificate).

 

If it's a matter of a nickname being used, then I'd mention it but submitting documents is not necessary.

Thank you for your prompt response. We were concerned about the documentation because it wasn't a name change due to marriage. On the court document, the new name doesn't appear, just the previous name.
