It is up to you. Money order normally you cannot track if it's been cashed. If bank check you will know exactly when it was cashed.

Hi all,

I'm about to send the I-130/I-485 package to USCIS Chicago Lockbox for my parents. They are here in US on B2 visa currently. I'm their petitioner/sponsor and here's what I'm enclosing in their individual package. Let me know if anything needs to change.

1      G-1145 (e-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance)

2      I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative) Package

Documents attached to form I-130:

·      Check of $535

·      Beneficiary’s passport ID, US Visa stamp and last page copies

·      Beneficiary’s I-94 Arrival Record

·      Beneficiary’s birth certificate

·      Beneficiary’s marriage certificate

·      Petitioner’s birth certificate

·      Petitioner’s US Passport ID page copy

·      Petitioner’s Certificate of Naturalization copy

3      I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) Package

Documents attached to form I-485:

·      Check of $1125

·      2 identical passport photographs

·      Applicant’s passport ID, US Visa stamp and last page copies

·      Applicant’s I-94 Arrival Record

·      Applicant’s birth certificate

·      G-325A (Biographic Information) form

·      I-693 (Report of Medical Examination & Vaccination Record). Sealed envelope from the Doctor

·      I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization)

·      I-864 (Affidavit of Support)

Everything is ready and I thought to check VJ for any recent developments before mailing it.

Hello all! :D

I too am filling out the I-130/I-485 package for my parents. They are here in the US on a B2 visa. I'm their petitioner/sponsor and have a few questions:

  • Do I file I-130, I-485 and I -864 at the same time or do I wait to get approval from first two and then file I-864?
  • Should I send checks for each form for each parent? Is it one check for each I-485?
  • I didn't see what form their birth certificate should be included with. Do we need to attach them to the packages?
  • Their I-94 expires mid Oct 2017. I know processing times vary but what would happen if their paperwork is still being reviewed, do they have to go back and start all over again?
  • Are we eligible to file electronically?

Sorry for any silly questions and thank you so much in advance for your patience and any input, very appreciated!

I put I-130/485/765/864/693 all in 1 pkg and mailed. If you don't put 864, you'll definitely get an RFE

  • Should I send checks for each form for each parent? Is it one check for each I-485?

I put separate checks for 130 and 485 for each parent. So, total 4 checks. checks are attached to respective forms.

  • I didn't see what form their birth certificate should be included with. Do we need to attach them to the packages?

Did you go thru the 485 instructions? It clearly says to include the applicants BC and alternative form if original is not available.

  • Their I-94 expires mid Oct 2017. I know processing times vary but what would happen if their paperwork is still being reviewed, do they have to go back and start all over again?

Pending 485 allows the applicant to continue to stay in US until decision is made. Look up online more on this.

  • Are we eligible to file electronically?

I dont see any e-filing option for 130/485

Sorry for any silly questions and thank you so much in advance for your patience and any input, very appreciated!

Sorry for the late reply. I sent a personal check. It's easier to track, in terms of when it's cashed.

Sorry for the late reply, didn't think anyone was following my thread lol.

1. Not sure.... Check the April board, you may get the answer there. I'm not familiar with the process of filing for parents already here

2. I would send a check for each form for each parent because the petitions are considered individually.

3. If they're already here and have petitions pending i would keep them here until you get a decision.

4. Don't think you're able to file electronically. Some correct me if I'm wrong.
