No I'm in Texas, but I don't think a lot of states or even DMV accept the NOA1, for me they checked the dates shown by the DHS, the same that appears on the I-94, so my DL expires at the end of the months 😕

PA does, and I think CA does as well. No idea on any others.

I am not too sure about VA.

they told me they have scanned my NOA1 and sent to richmond for verification.

 that’s why I am asking ppl who also applied in VA to get an idea.

I'm not sure, sorry. I'm going by others' numerous reports but I can[t recall if they ever stated that.

Hey there. Yes I did! Don't let me get started on the process LOL! I always say among all the government offices I've had the luck (haha) to interact with since I started this immigration journey, the DMV is by far the worst (most rude, most unhelpful, most unflexible, most unreasonable, most negative anything etc!!!) But yes, I was able to get my license with just the AOS NOA1 plus all the other documentation that they required like SSN, bank statements etc (check their website for a complete list). They are a stickler esp regarding the bank statements. They want the one that is actually mailed to you on a monthly basis so I had to wait for my first statement to come and use that. I tried with a letter from my bank first but they turned that down. They gave me something called a "limited-duration" license which was valid for a year. I just "renewed" it for a full one recently. BUT guess what, they botched the picture taking and i look cross eyed there but whatever, I'm glad i'm done with them for a while. Well, unless the cross eyed picture bothers me more than dealing with them, then i might go get a new card!!!!

 

I live in VA and went to the DMV on Four Mile Run in Arlington.

Hey, is no one saying anything about foreign drivers license being valid for one year after US entry date or is it just me in Nebraska?

 

EDIT

My Singaporean drivers license (which is in English and has definition of auto classes behind it) is valid for driving on US soil and for renting cars. Buying a car on installments is a different ball game that you probably have to get your significant other in. But car insurance is available to me right now. My husband only needed to submit my foreign driver's license and our marriage certificate. Insurance guy said fine forever as long as I understand that after a year from entering US, I don't get a US license and send it in to them, they won't cover me.

So I guess I mean fine for a year after POE. Or you know, if you get a green card and then travel home and come back, it's another 12 months.

I have my Sg driver license with me as well.

So I got a VA license but it's only valid for 3 months. Now I am trying to use the AOS NOA1 to extend it but not sure if it works. Otherwise I won't be able to drive after 3 months...

Besides, I feel Driver license is so important, without it, we have to bring passport as our id all the time which is so inconvenient....

I've really been using my Singaporean IC for identification. My hubby and I went for my GC interview yesterday. I used my IC to get into the building for the biometrics appointment and the interview, I had my passport because they require it for the appointments, but I gave them my IC and they didn't ask for my passport. Weird how the different states different rules thing work. I didn't have to worry on it in Singapore.

The rules regarding the validity of a foreign license vary by state. I'd also point out that in many cases, the x months/year component only applies to non-residents. Entry on a K-1 and/or applying for AOS is often viewed as having US residency (not permanent yet but still a resident), and those rules for foreign driver licenses no longer apply. YMMV

 

Please refrain from advocating driving without a valid license. This is foolish and can lead to very serious repercussions for somebody intending to AOS. For instance, a DUI, negligence while driving, etc. is usually not a CIMT in itself. But if performed while also not having a valid license, it can be elevated to an aggravated felony and be deemed a CIMT. A CIMT is an inadmissibility.
