President Trump Fires FBI Director James Comey

President Trump’s seemingly abrupt decision Tuesday to fire FBI Director James Comey was made at the recommendation of top Justice Department officials who claimed that his controversial handling of the Hillary Clinton email case last year rendered him unfit for the position.

 

A senior White House official told Fox News it was purely “coincidental” that the firing occurred on the same day Comey faced scrutiny for giving faulty testimony about emails sent from Clinton aide Huma Abedin to Anthony Weiner.

 

Rather, Comey had been the subject of a review by the very top of the Trump Justice Department. Newly confirmed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein penned an extensive memo for Attorney General Jeff Sessions outlining concerns with Comey’s conduct during and after the Clinton email probe.

 

The memo said “almost everyone agrees that the Director made serious mistakes.” Rosenstein wrote that he could not defend Comey’s handling of the end of the investigation, and could not understand “his refusal to accept the nearly universal judgment that he was mistaken.”

 

The first count against Comey, according to Rosenstein, was his July 5, 2016 announcement during which he alleged Clinton and her colleagues were “extremely careless” in handling classified material on her personal email and server but also said the FBI would not recommend charges.

The memo said Comey was “wrong to usurp” then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s authority.

 

“It is not the function of the Director to make such an announcement,” Rosenstein wrote, adding that Comey “at most” should have said the FBI had finished its investigation and presented findings to prosecutors.

The memo said Comey compounded “the error” by holding a press conference to “release derogatory information about the subject of a declined criminal investigation,” suggesting he did so “gratuitously.”

The memo said: “The Director laid out his version of the facts for the news media as if it were a closing argument, but without a trial.” Rosenstein called it a “textbook example” of what prosecutors and agents are “taught not to do.”

 

 

If the memo can be verified then it puts all this "Nixon" nonsense to bed for good.

President Donald Trump weighed firing his FBI director for more than a week. When he finally pulled the trigger Tuesday afternoon, he didn't call James Comey. He sent his longtime private security guard to deliver the termination letter in a manila folder to FBI headquarters.

He had grown enraged by the Russia investigation, two advisers said, frustrated by his inability to control the mushrooming narrative around Russia. He repeatedly asked aides why the Russia investigation wouldn’t disappear and demanded they speak out for him. He would sometimes scream at television clips about the probe, one adviser said.

I'm not too sure that those who voted for Trump would be that bothered if he got impeached. The Republican Party would still have the Presidency The House and Senate. The election was more lost by Clinton than won by Trump and I think it's why so many get great joy watching some of you go nutty over the next Trump story. Maybe the Republican party will be happy if he is gone. If your a Democrat you maybe better with Trump still in the White House at least you have a chance to block some of his bills, if he is gone the GOP will be more united.

 

I was in the US on holidays just before the last election and was having a chat with the in laws. My belief was that I couldn't understand why either candidate was bothering to run for President to begin with. Trump no history with politics so why bother at his age, just keep his money and enjoy the rest of his life. But I think he got more stubborn the more he was told he had no chance so he stuck around. I thought he may pack it in mid presidency if he won, more about winning than actually wanting it.

 

Hilary Clinton I just couldn't get my head around why she would bother either. She was being plaqued by the email scandal and way too many other skeletons in her closet. Trump didn't even need run nasty campaign adverts against her. I read her name could be on the ballot for 2020, what a thought....

 

The vote was anyone but Clinton, the same in France with Macron winning only because no one wanted LePen. Because of the low turn out he didn't even get 50% of the potential voting register. 

 

Its possible either could have been impeached, not good for the American public. The impeachment you think you want may not necessarily be what's best for you in the long term.

 

Maybe this is just a naive view from an outsider.

Its all to do with how they behave, look at Trump and Obama, contrasting personalities. Trump is a lose cannon, controversial, a narcissist and craves the limelight.

That why he's so much easier for the comedians to go after him because he feeds them through his own behavior.
