Hello. My sister and her husband of 2 years are leaving for Mexico Monday to finish the final steps on his path to immigration. He was told by Mexican Embassy here in Chicago to mail his fingerprints to the police station. They did overnight them and now are being told they need 10 working days to process. Does anyone have anymore information on what to expect during stay. His interview is on May 22, and medical is scheduled for May 16. Thank ypu

Why are they going to Mexico? If this for CR-1/K-1, or AOS through marriage from inside the US?

They have been working on getting him legal here. He came to the u.s. when he was 15 illegally with his father. He is 24 now. His interview with the Mexican consulate is May 22. She is worried he won't come back after 2 years and thousands of dollars later. They seemed to be getting jammed up with fingerprinting on Mexico's end. I'm trying to help her because she is frustrated and hystericalat this point so close to they leave.

If you will have the interview and the medical exam in Cd Juarez, why did you not schedule the fingerprint scan and photo at the CAS center in C.d Juarez? It is fairly easy and only takes 30 minutes. It is very close to the U.S Consulate in Cd. Juarez and can even be done one day before the interview date. You should schedule an appointment. You can schedule online or call their office.

Thank you! They had him fingerprinted here in Chicago through thr consulate. The consulate had them sent to Mexico City and they said it was no good. The consulate here gave them the wrong information, they would have flown out sooner. This is helpful though, thank you.

The CAS centers handle the fingerprint scans for U.S. visas issued in Mexico. Every city that has a U.S. Consulate has a CAS. If his interview date is on May 22 and the medical exam is on May 16, you can schedule any day between the medical exam and the interview date. There is no need for them to travel earlier. Just make sure to make the appointment soon. This office is somewhat dynamic and you are only allowed in 15 minutes before your appointment time.

Ok she said she was able to schedule that. I guess there was an issue with the police certificate and they want him to go to Monterrey where he was born, but that will take 10 business days? Do you have any information on the certificate?

I was not asked for the Police Certificate for my interview, but every case is different. If requested they ask for what is known as 'Carta de No Antecedentes Penales'. I applied for one of these years ago, for a job I applied for that was requesting it. This was over 20 years ago and the way I located the office responsible for issuing them was by asking at the Registro Civil and they gave me the address. Back then I had to fill out a form, pay the fees and bring in some photographs and it was ready in 1-2 weeks. Can't recall the exact time.

For Monterrey I am thinking the government websites are helpful. Seems like you can request an appointment

http://www.nl.gob.mx/servicios/carta-de-no-antecedentes-penales

Or click Otras formas de Aplicar. Looks like he would need to bring in his birth certificate, ID (passport) and if he does not have a criminal recordd, the Police Certificate can be issued the same day.

For Monterrey - he needs to go to Pabellon Ciudadano. Open M-F 8 am -3 pm.

Hope this helps,
