I don't see the interview in your list. Was it waived?

I see you did everything so quickly. How much time after marriage do I have to mail the AOS package? Is there a deadline?

There is no deadline. However, I wanted my husband to start working as soon as possible because I have student loans and credit card debt to take care off. So I had the package prepared a month before his arrival and just added the necessary documents after his arrival, like I-94 and marriage certificate.  He started to uber two weeks ago. So he has taken over half all of my bills so I can pay off my credit cards and we can buy a house

Was your interview waived?

Also why did you have to ask the Congressman to intervene? Were there any issues?

There was no issues, i figured that expediting his EAD would go smoother if I asked our congressman. And it did. USCIS did not ask me for proof of nothing. They just approved it after I called congress. I still have not received an interview letter. Which I'm guessing is because they waived the interview. A lot of the people who filed with my same time timeline already babe interview dates. I wouldn't know as yet since my local USCIS office is backed up.

Just curious, how does a letter to a congressman look like?

The congressman for my district had me download a form on their website. They called it a consent of release form. I filled it out, one of the questions was, how can I help? And that's when I put my issues and put my husbands case number, arrival date, and attached credit card statements and student loans proving my issues.

This is a very thorough tutorial and helpful because you might want to treat each form as a standalone application.

 

Another option is to have only one cover letter (at the top of the entire application). Then detail the supporting documentation for each form. That's what my husband and I did. We followed the instructions in this sample. The couple who provided the sample adjusted from a K-1 visa. No RFEs and their interview was waived. Granted, this might have had nothing to do with the cover letter. :P

 

In our cover letter, my husband clarified potential discrepancies in our application, e.g. the fact that our check and my husband's pay stubs had his old address. We also included a sentence at the start of the letter about how we met. 

 

No RFEs. Our interview is early next month.

Married to US Citizen. I'm the beneficiary.

 

Adjustment of Status (AOS) from F-1

  • Priority date: 2016-09
  • Initial interview for I-485: 2017-06. Approved on the same day.

 

Removal of Conditions (ROC)

  • Eligible starting: 2019-03
