Hi everyone,

Hoping that somebody can help me with my question.

I'm a Japanese living in Canada with permanent residence status.

Last year in the fall, I received a police certificate from Japan. I'm at the stage of sending all the civil documents and submitting DS-260.

There was some family emergency in Japan and now I have to go back to japan for 5 weeks over the summer.

Does anyone know if I need to get a new police certificate again?

My understanding is that I don't need to get a new one as long as I don't stay in Japan for the period of 6 months.

Since you are a Japanese citizen, you do need a police certificate from that country, but you only need it again if expires at the moment that is requested (usually police certificate are valid for at least 6 months, others from 1 year, depending of the country).

you will need a police certificate from Canada too if you has been living there for over 6 months.

Hi ASMS,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I already got the police certificate from Canada.

My questions is if the Japanese police certificate becomes invalid once I go back to Japan for 5 weeks.
