French Voters Defy Putin’s Meddling, but You’d Hardly Know It in Russia https://nyti.ms/2po1VPz

MOSCOW — The official tone from the Kremlin on Monday, the day after the pro-Europe Emmanuel Macron was elected France’s president, was that Russia can work with anybody. But the snow falling on Moscow was perhaps more reflective of the damp chill in the Kremlin’s relations with Europe after yet another fruitless attempt to influence an election abroad.

I can see why they elected to go with the Putin angle and not with Trump.. because readers wouldn't need to go far to see that Obama threw his hat in the ring of a foreign election and that people trying to influence the elections of other countries is so common only a naive person susceptible to conspiracies would flip out over stuff like this. Good for the NYT in knowing exactly how to tailor their Putin-phobia to the right target audience.

Trump was not even relevant in this election, aside from the fact that he is hated by the French and regarded as a buffoon hated even more than Putin (82 % to Putins 74 %).  Trumps irrelevance internationally is growing daily.

Not sure throwing his hat in the ring is was what Obama did or if it even made a difference. You make is sound like every ex president needs to go away and drink a cup of shut the eff up once they leave office.

You have quite the imagination, especially since in the post you quoted I just said "people trying to influence the elections of other countries is so common only a naive person susceptible to conspiracies would flip out over stuff like this". Do you really need me in a conversation if you're just going to make stuff up?

So you are all good with Obama "throwing his hat in the ring" ?  Nice gas-lighting attempt.

such a weird way of thinking..only a naive person susceptible to conspiracies would flip out over stuff like this? what ever happened to knowledgeable citizens demanding fair and honest elections? nothing we can do with all the fat slacker basement dwellers now in the ring. lol. carry on russia, trump supporters (even the one's who won't claim trump ^_^) think its irrational to demand you keep your paid troll squad out of our business.

The only reason stuff like this is even news is because the left flips out about Putin and other foreign leaders trying to influence elections, when this is done by so many people throughout the world (the US is one of the worst serial offenders, in all likelihood THE worst, at this foreign influence thing the left has suddenly decided to get upset about) it shouldn't even be news. But they (the NYT) know, as part of the MSM, they have their lemmings on a tight leash, so they know that using "Putin" will trigger the left and cause a reaction. So.. as I said, good for them. I'm all for taking advantage of people who refuse to critically think.

"what ever happened to knowledgeable citizens demanding fair and honest elections"  in the authoritarian mindset personal liberties , fair elections, freedom of expression take a strong back seat to imposing a common ( read their) way of thinking and acting.

what's super frustrating is the premise that anyone who wants fair and honest elections is now considered 'triggered' for having this desire - a desire that used to be highly respected and aspired to. ah, the good old days.
