Hello,

Could anyone recommend the best course of action if an applicant doesn't know the birthdate of one of their parents, which is information asked for in the DS-260? As far as I can tell there isn't much room for explanations, so I'm not sure whether they should make a guess and provide an estimated date, or provide a date that is clearly not accurate (i.e. today's date) so it is obvious that they don't know. I could go into detail, but the applicant definitely doesn't know the date, and there doesn't seem to be a way to obtain it officially (the person was born in 1910–1920 in rural El Salvador). Any advice is appreciated.

From my experiance, if you can´t provide an answer, a pop up window will apear and you can provide an explanation. If not i would wright an email explaining the detail or just put N/a in the spot.

I would NOT put a random Date in there!!!!!!!

It was a lot easier than I expected and there was simply an option to check "I don't know." Thanks for the replies.
