Question about timing, and communication

Hi all.

Australian here. Second time DV entrant, first time 'selected for further processing', and first time poster!

With your help, I just managed to delete all the '000's in my case number, and successfully sign and submit my DS-260. (And who here wants to point out that 'entering your case number exactly as you did on the sign in page' is not the same as 'but delete all the 000s at this page'? Not me, immigration, not me.)

I have a question about the next step. The initial letter states:

Your case will not be scheduled for an interview appointment until a visa number is available. If you are scheduled for an interview, you will receive a notification message at the e-mail address you provided when you submitted your initial application.

Assuming I'm not required to give further information, does the above mean that if a visa number does not become available then I will not hear from the KCC at all? Or do they eventually send out a 'thanks, but no thanks' letter?

Thanks all - great forum :)

Thanks EmilyW.

I've been doing a lot of googling and it would seem that I have a high case number, so I'm feeling that it is unlikely I will get an interview. The case number is OC23XX. I think all OC entrants are current at the moment? But anything over 1400, based on previous years, is unlikely to even get an interview.

Have subscribed to the visa bulletins though, and will wait with baited breath :)

Thanks for your response.

To add to Emily and to answer your question - yes if your number doesn't get current, you just never hear from them again.

ps I totally love your username

Yea, thanks EmilyW and SusieQQQ. Me thinks my initial excitement has now been tempered sufficiently.

I looked at the DV acceptance numbers for 2014 and 2015 - it would seem that in both years about 3,000 'Oceanians' were provided with green cards - even though they stopped interviewing around the 1000 mark (according to britsimonsays.com). I'm assming this means that the additional people were dependents and were attached to the 1000 who were interviewed.

Oh well - there's always next year!

Thanks for the responses - and good luck to everyone else!

How do I know my number is current. My case number is 2018AS000069xx?

In the visa bulletin. This link explains how to read it for DV. http://britsimonsays.com/read-visa-bulletin/

DV2018 only starts in October so you won't be current for months yet.
