My husband is being interview by the end of this month for immigration visa. But we may not be able to move permanently to USA for another 2+ years.

After getting visa, could he move there temporarily for a month or two, obtain green card, and then move back to the UK (or any other country where he has to); then come back to USA again whenever he can to reside permanently?

I'd be grateful for any help in this regard.

I think you need to talk to the embassy about this. They can allow extensions if you have a good reason for living abroad but I don't know for how long.

I gained a conditional green card several years ago while living in the US, but moved back to the UK shortly afterwards. When it came to time to remove the conditional status I had to be living in the US to be able to do it, and because I was not living there I lost my green card. I was given a one-year extension but I stayed in the UK for longer. I am now going through the whole DCF process again so I can get another green card to move out there hopefully this summer.

My sistter-in-law has a green card through spending her childhood in the US. She now lives in the UK and goes back to the US once a year to see her parents. On her last trip her green card was taken away because she is clearly not a US resident.

What changed since last summer, with your plans?

You may want to speak to the Consular staff about simply retaining the approved I-130 (find out how long it would be valid for) and apply for the visa closer to the time you actually want to use it.
