Can I be the interpreter/translator as well as the preparer for my wife's AOS paperwork? Would it be ok to list my name there for both of these? Or do I have to find some other person that would be listed as the interpreter?

Thank you!

Yes you can do that because it isn't a problem. You don't have to list your name as a preparer at all. I know I didn't for my wife and there was no problem at all. What language does your wife speak? I didn't put down any translator for my wife because she understands English but accents throw her off so I helped during the AOS interview with no problem.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. My wife speaks Russian or Ukrainian. If I still list myself as a preparer and a translator would it be OK?

Thanks again!

Yes it ok, I am trying to remember if you did that they wanted more information from you on the document. So I just did not do date at all and said something at the interview.

How did your interview go? Was it long? Did they interrogate you and your spouse a lot?

The AOS interview went ok they just basically wanted to see that we were in a valid marriage. But like I said earlier my wife does not do accents well at all, so I had to help translate/interpret some. He(the interviewer) got a little perturbed but overall it was fine and we got approved for AOS

Have there been cases of an AOS interview failure?

Yes there has been but the vast majority of those are because the they suspect a fraudulent relationship/marriage. The big thing with the AOS and the ROC is to KEEP IT SIMPLE and don't over think things. You are almost on the verge of overthinking this issue which is understandable. Just make sure you have all the evidence and that should be good.

I'm thinking of mailing the evidence as well with the AOS package, so they might waive the interview. I read this is possible...

Sending in evidence is no guarantee of an interview waiver. When I filed for AOS I had no evidence at all, and still got approved without an interview.

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

A lot of K1 AOS filers used to get an interview waiver, as in a way they already had their interview - but again, with no guarantees. There's really no way to tell which way your specific case will go.

Any hints that might increase my chances to waive the interview?

It's honestly like a tip of the hat and a guess work on who gets an interview and who doesn't.

All I sent in was marriage certificate, rental agreement, and insurance documents.
