Not sure how you're qualifying "gun violence", but when it comes to homicide by gun, it's pretty much split 50/50 between states with stringent gun laws and states with very lax gun laws, according to the FBI.

In 2013 the top ten states for homicide by gun were:

1. Cal. - 1224

2. Texas - 760

3. PA - 440

4. MI - 440

5. GA. - 411

6. IL. - 364

7. NY. - 362

8. LA. - 356

9. OH. - 309

10. IN. - 238

9. NC. - 315

10. OH. - 309

Had to make a correction on #'s 9 & 10, but the result remains the same.

I'm skeptical of two things:

1) "homicide"

2) not a rate, just raw population.. so most populated states have highest murders, doesn't tell the whole story

I don't buy the argument that those with the least guns have the most violence (although places that tend to openly ban guns are certainly good targets for armed criminals), but I certainly think that logic should dictate those areas with the most gun violence should necessitate people arming themselves.

I'm not buying anything you're selling and I'm very skeptical of everything you say.

And I got a little tip for ya. Blue states tend to be more populous than red states. the fact that there are any red states on that list at all (except maybe Texas) speaks volumes. And the #2 & #3 states have open carry laws to boot.

There is no correlation between firearm ownership and firearm homicides. (There is a mild correlation between firearm ownership and gun deaths but thats a different story).

Here is an interesting comparison. Often you will hear that the murder rate is lower in the UK than the US and that it comes down to firearms (given that handguns are banned and long guns are heavily regulated). But is that true? The first major gun law in the UK was the 1920 Firearm Act.  Therefore prior to 1920 the US and the UK were apples to apples so to speak. But look at the murder rates in the early 20th century. The UK was just under 1 per 100k back then. The US averaged 4 to 5 per 100K. Today both have similar rates to their early 20th century rates despite the gun law difference.

Current UK murder rates say, according to Wikipedia, 0.9 per 100k. The US is at 3.9. But given similarly gun owning countries tend to have a much lower murder rate than the US, it's clear the US' murder problems has little to do with the presence of guns. The US has a pretty violent reputation in general, despite the consistent improvements on these over the last 2-3 decades.

That's nice. Maybe you should start a thread on that subject, I'm discussing something completely different.

And it has been very under quota,  as have the race threads . Seems race as a contant topic disappeared since certain posters left, who by the way never brought it up,. 🤣

You're right, the race baiting posts have been way down since LIB and Danno left. :D

I moss those #BLM days...

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
