How long it takes to clear CBP will depend on how busy an airport is at the time you fly in.  LAX would probably take longer than San Diego.  Expect 1-3 hours on average.  I've seen people who have taken 6 hours to get through LAX during busy time.

You can fly directly to your destination from Mexico.  Your destination can be your first stop.

Where are you flying from and to?

Hi,

I flew into Fresno and the processing must have taken around 45 mins, but it is a small airport. I have been through Dallas airport and sent to secondary inspection due to a previous student visa and had an extra 20 minute wait, but there was no one else waiting at the time. So it really comes down to how busy the airport is. Dallas should be fine, but just to be on the safe side I would plan for a 3 hour layover between your flights.

Best of luck to you and safe travels.

Depending on the POE, give 2-3 hours for transit. Some times there are few people in line so it is relatively fast to go through customs. But some times is heavy traffic (flights almost come one after another). You can't really foresee what the best time is. You also have to consider the time the custom officer will spend interviewing you/your fiance. So to avoid rushing through and missing the flight, a longer transit would be recommended.

Best of luck :)
