Hello all, quick question. I have 3 kids, my son lives with me full time, my 11 yr old daughter lives with my ex husband during the week & me on weekends but, I claim her on my taxes & my 20 yr old lives on her own. How many kids should I claim on there petition?

Any kids under 18 are counted, and any people that you claim on your taxes are counted REGARDLESS if they live with you or not.

So, in this case if you don't claim your 20 year old on your taxes, then you will only claim your son that lives with you and your 11 year old daughter.

Thanks for your reply. So at the interview, would he say that I have 3 kids but, one is 20 & doesn't live with me? Or would he just reference the 2 younger ones?



If they ask he can just say you have 3, one is 20 and out of the house, one lives with you and one lives with their dad.
