Does anyone know, especially those with Cuban spouses/fiances, know if I am able to purchase my fiances ticket here or is that something that can only be done in Cuba? If I can do it, where do I go to buy it? I ask all this because if he has to do it there... well he is not going to be able to pay for it himself and I have had the hardest time finding a way to send money there, even the allowed $300, being as I don't live in Florida. Just thought I would see if maybe I am able to get his ticket here, instead of the headache of sending him money somehow. Also can he travel through Mexico and then another port of entry? I have heard bad things about Miami, well at least that it can take longer to get through immigration there. Thanks!

I can't say for Cuba - but you can buy a plane ticket in the U.S. and and a Brazilian can use it - I know that.

Also, our POE was Miami (last month) and there was no problem.

I wonder if he could fly into Cancun. Mexican immigration is pretty strict with Cubans so perhaps Canada would be easier depending where you are.

If he could fly through Cancun, there are many direct flights to the States. However, as I said...immigration there may be a b*tch. If this really interests you, I could put you in touch with someone who works in immigration in Cancun.

Thanks for the information. I will have to look into it and see what our options are, as I am still not sure what the best way to approach this is being he is Cuban, etc. I will let you know if I need that information and thanks again!

If you buy the tickets for him from here and have them issued as e-tickets, won't he be able to go to the counter and have the ticket agents pull him up in their computer system? I've bought my mom her plane tickets that way to fly from Colombia to Denver and all she had to do was go to the ticket counter and hand over her ID.

Customer service from the airline you plan on using will be able to answer all those questions more accurately.

Depends on the airline. A coworker had major issues with his wife - she needed a flight from South Carolina back to Tampa, FL - had one booked, but didn't have the credit card so they wouldn't issue her the boarding pass. (EVEN THOUGH THE SAME LAST NAME APPEARED ON THE CARD.)

I would honestly try to find a way to wire money over there so he can buy the tickets. It's not a risk I'd want to run. Even if you have to do more than one wire transfer to get the money there - we live in FL so it's easy to send money to wherever, but there has to be some way whether it be online, etc.

Miami is just as bad as a lot of the other ones...I'm not sure you really save yourself the headache.

How could you buy it though? I, just doing research, did a search for Cuba to DR or Cuba to Mexico and it says that it cannot book due to US travel restrictions. Looks like he might have to?

Thanks to all for the input. I will do more research and now it looks like I will try to find ways to wire him the money... or have friends and family do it as well (due to limits set by US government). If anyone has any more information I would love to hear it. Thanks so much!!!

Hi Rebex05,

I will tell you what I did for my fiance. I sent him $500.00 through the same remittance program via Western Union. You are allowed to send him a total of $1000.00 to emigrate to US, $500 before the Visa and $500 after he gets it. Since My fiance just received his Visa now I can send him the last $500.00. The only catch is that after this money is sent to him you are not legally authorized to send him anymore money ever. His family can receive it from family members in the US but he can't receive anymore money from anyone in the US through this remittance process.

You have to call Western Union to see which location in your area actually does these Cuban remittances because they don't all do them. I don't know if you have done one before but they have you fill out and sign a remittance affidavit. Here is a link for the form they will present to you:

I hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Thanks so much. That is the path I was looking at taking with Western Union (as it is pretty much the only agency here in Colorado that I have found to do remittances, but he will have to check out to see where he will be able to get the money. So once he has the full 1000 only he will not be able to receive any more money... not necessarily family correct? We have other options as his sister-in-law is now in Spain for a few weeks and may be able to take money when she heads back in a few weeks. Just have to figure out all the details. So is it easier to have your fiance but the plane tickets there? Thanks to much for the help.

Correct, only he will not be allowed to technically, legally receive anymore money through this remittance process because it has been documented with the Affidavit that he has received the maximum amount to immigrate to US. His family is still eligible to receive US dollars every 3 months from immediate family members in the US.

I was told by a travel agent that my fiance would have to purchase the ticket there but I am trying to verify this with another agency. If I find out more I will let you know.

Your interview date is coming up soon are you exited?

Best wishes!

Yes we are real excited... a bit unsure what to do now that we have everything done that we can do. He finally got all the needed documents from me via DHL the beginnig of this week, picked up the medical and now has all things ready and in hand. We are hoping for a quick approval, sort of like you guys got. How long has the exit process taken and what recommendations would you give, if any? I have not found out anything else about buying his ticket, but will also let you know. I appreciate the help. Let me know how things go for your and when you two are back together again.
