In Trump’s America, Being Sexually Assaulted Could Make Your Health Insurance More Expensive [edited title]

An amendment in the GOP health-care-reform bill will allow states to deny coverage for preexisting conditions, including sexual assault.

Pre-Obamacare rape survivors who sought treatment for their injuries could be denied health care later on. Under Obamacare, preexisting conditions were guaranteed to receive coverage — among them, sexual assault. The American Health Care Act is going to change that.

The new MacArthur-Meadows Amendment will allow states to discriminate based on medical history, reportedly without addressing the subsequent high cost of health care for millions of Americans.

In addition to rape, postpartum depression, cesarean sections, and surviving domestic violence are all considered preexisting conditions. Companies can also deny coverage for gynecological services and mammograms.

if hubby hits or rapes you, don't report in this scenario .

Face it. According to MDR mentality, If your husband hits or rapes you, it's because you deserved it or was asking for it. In addition, he is your husband, so as a woman, your job is to submit. And never fear, because we all know that a woman's body shuts down in the event of rape, and it is therefore impossible to get pregnant as a result.

The title of your thread is very misleading "Under new health bill, rape is a pre-existing condition"

No it's not, read your own links and the one word in each title is "Could",  your thread is just scare mongering.

And as a survivor myself of 13 years of psychical abuse by my ex wife I can guarantee you it's not only hubby that does the hitting. Really it didn't need to be added to the end of your post.

It's a common theme, hence why I tend to ignore their threads. If not misleading, rife full of TMZ and Jerry Springer stuff, attacking Trump's kids. I don't care for sleazy.

Some days I just look at the new threads and like you I give them a wide berth but the topic of this one is just a little to personal for me not to comment.

to the first point:  If the folks who voted for this bill did not get a chance to read it, and the folks who have been pushing repleal and replace for a long long time did not prepare with well thought out language then I don't have a lot of sympathy if they get called out for poor optics or word choices.   AND Why excluded pregnancy under any circumstances let alone violent ones?   What is to be gained by going back to the 1920s in our thinking?

to the second point:  I am sorry you were the victim of abuse, of course that will make you more aware and sympathetic to the victim

It's more the way the thread was created with the over the top misleading title that made me comment. I never said I supported it nor would I, as it stands at present the bill will not pass so no need for scare mongering.

What? not going to pass?  Is that why Trump and those congressmen are breaking out the cigars?  This is not really going anywhere?    I am not sure you were around for the real scaremongering that went on with Obama Cares adoption.

Thread's title edited to conform with that of linked article.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
