My wife took our newborn to her CRBA interview today and everything went well. We were informed that the passport will come in roughly 2 to 3 weeks and the CRBA in 4 to 6 weeks. We are actually planning to leave in 4 weeks, since I've already bought our plane tickets ahead of time. My question is, do we need CRBA certificate to enter the U.S ? Or there passport will suffice?

It seems like this certificate is just like the naturalization or certificate of citizenship. It isn't quite important and rarely will anyone ask for it ?

If it isn't too important I'll just pick it up he next time my wife visits philippines....

We do plan on applying for her SSN, I wonder if the certificate will play a role in obtaining SSN. Thanks

Just the passport is needed.

Are you sure a SSN wasn't part of the CRBA? When we did our CRBA for our son the embassy requested a SSN at the same time. I know every embassy is different but you might check to make sure they didn't apply for one at the same time.

Yes. I was advice that doing SSN upon arrival would be easier and actually faster. There were cases that it took so long, they applied again in the US and ended with two SSN and it became more problematic. Thank you

Ah ok, makes sense. Our sons SSN was pretty painless, his card arrive in the mail at our house in the US about a month after the CRBA was approved.

The passport should be fine when applying here. In case you haven't seen this, check this out. https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10023.pdf
