State I.d for interview.

Hi everyone ! My naturalization interview is scheduled on the 18th of May. On the letter they sent it says one of the identification I need to bring with me is any state identification like drivers license. I don't drive. So do I have to get me a state I.d for that ? I wonder if it's optional or it's critical to get one since I don't have any other I.d other than my 10 yr gc.

All your inputs are much appreciated. 😘

Yes. I don't have drivers license since I don't drive. And no state I.d either since I've always have my green card.

You won't have a green card after you are naturalized. You'll have a certificate, but that isn't picture ID. Whatever the reason is they're asking for your state ID, you will need one if you are approved for citizenship. Get it now.

The interviewer asks you to show the ID to establish the state residency requirements. If I were you I'd apply for at least a non-driver's photo ID today. Be prepared to explain why you don't have a photo ID. Beyond that nobody knows what could happen. He/she may not care at all, or not conduct the interview because they can't determine if you were a state resident. I'd at least bring utility bills/paystubs/or something similar that show her address.

There is also this thread from 2010; take a look. Looks like they went through successfully with a temporary permit.

As others said, apply for your State ID pronto. I do believe it shows that you have satisfied the residency requirements plus as certain Field Offices have jurisdiction over a specific area they need to validate that you fall into their area, I google Kansas state ID so here you go: http://www.dmv.org/ks-kansas/id-cards.php

All the best!

You can obtain a photo id the same day in probably less than an hour. DMV actually have photo id designated centers which make the process very speedy.

You will need a photo id everywhere -any job,  doctor's office, bank, kid's school ....surprised you have not needed it in so many years.

  • sending I130 05/16/2007
  • cheque is cashed on 06/11/2007

  • 08/07/2007 Case received by NVC and case number assigned :))

You are given about one month prior notice about your interview. It would show low interest, lack of responsibility, and laziness or worse, may raise suspicions that you may have something to hide, if you show up at the interview only to tell them that you did not make any efforts to obtain and bring what they asked you to bring.
It will take one day, if not less, to get a state-issued ID.

On the interview notice for citizenship interview - state id was not mentioned so she did not make ..obviously did not bring it with her to interview

and her case was assigned to new field office.

Why would not they mention state id required/recommended under list of documents?

Is the passport ok? My 751 pending and I dont drive either , I tried to get ID but dmv did not let me because green cars expired?

I'm afraid you will still need the state ID,

This is the instruction on the N-400 form:

If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must submit photocopies (front and back) of your Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card. You will also need to bring your Permanent Resident Card and a state-issued identification such as a driver’s license to your interview with USCIS. If you have lost your Permanent Resident Card, attach a copy of any other entry document or a photocopy of a receipt showing that you have filed the Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.

agreed on this, getting state ID or drivers license is fast and easy, In NY it's faster I'm not sure from other States.
