This forum and another forum talking about EADs just motivated me to contact my local Baltimore City Congressman in hopes someone might take a look at our EAD process and give it a little kick in the butt to get it moving. I doubt anything will come of it but it won't hurt the process.

EAD are processed in Lee's Summit, while AOS are in Baltimore...

I see from your timeline you had 2 biometrics appointments. Isn't that unusual? My understanding was the one appointment covers all applications, I-485 and EAD. I've only had one appointment. Anyone else?

Ok cool. I hadn't seen anyone else mention 2, but got a little worried! It may of course explain my delay! I won't know until they respond to my SR (or just produce my EAD)

We thought that was weird also but about half of the applicants in the July 2017 forum had also received two separate appointments letters for their forms and people said it isn't that uncommon. The issue was we received one about a week after the first. My husband walked in for the first and was already complete with his Biometrics before receiving a separate one for his EAD/Travel documents. This process is so inefficient it can be really frustrating at times.

At least he was able to get his license at the Annapolis DMV without his EAD with no issues and that process was by far the simplest part so far, which is weird to say about the DMV.

I received my biometric appointment for my EAD for a Tuesday, and then for my i485 for the day after,, I went the Tuesday and asked can I do them both today and she said yes

she said it's common that you have to biometric appointments but can be done all in 1 day

We were told the same but he had already completed the first one before we received the notice for the second so they didn't know he need one appointment for both. He did the second one it was fine just a headache because we are both using one car (which was actually totaled two weeks ago by a driver that ran a stop sign and hit us, we were both okay but a couple of bumps and bruises). I joke with my husband that luckily he already knows Baltimore from living here in the past but it has not been a friendly welcome back this time around.

Just his NOA for his I-485 (I forget what the exact name of the paper is) and his passport, he also brought his I-94 but his AOS status is what they were interested in. He was granted a 10 month temporary license in Annapolis. He joked and said everyone taking their test that afternoon was immigrating. Of course the rest of the paperwork like bank statements with his new address also.

He took the online drug class, then showed up in person to take the written exam for the drug class, he took the written driving test, then took the drivers test the next day. He completed it in less than 3 days. I was impressed.

Nice, they only accepted my wife's EAD not the pending I-485, which is weird. 10 months is also a strange period, not 6 not 12. I've been to that Annapolis DMV too, they could not validate my VA DL :)

After having this discussion with multiple VJers it sounds like most DMVs (but still not all states) should accept pending I-485 status but many DMV employees actually don't understand the immigration process. I know some VJers have even printed out protocols and showed the employees to make them understand.  Most don't know to look up the applicants in the SAFE system and that pending AOS status makes them legally a resident under law. Ten months is probably an estimate for his GC approval within Maryland which then he would have to renew, but agreed it is a bizarre time frame.

That is interesting, especially about the license. I tried at the one near me in Laurel and they insisted I needed my EAD. Did you also have to do the drugs and alcohol test? $50? On line and written? I did.

Yes my husband did all of that also, it took about 3 days. He was really efficient because his Australian license was going to expire in 4 days because of the Maryland resident laws. I read a lot of people had a difficult time in Maryland but we didn't have any problem at all. Like I said, I think it is all a matter of the employees knowing the immigration process and being familiar with looking up applicants in the SAFE computer system.

He had a Maryland Drivers license in the past that had since expired, so he was familiar with all the tests he had to do since he had done them years ago. He said his testing person in the car was texting the entire time not even paying attention to the drivers test he was doing.

How does the EAD work in terms of when they ship it out.  Is it meant to be in order or what.

My friend today received his EAD,, his filing date was June 2nd for the EAD and AOS, fingerprints were done June 19th.

Like me he his switching from a work visa to GC threw marriage
