I am also seeing the same error. I had used the same photo from last year.

Capture.PNG

The error doesn't have anything to do with the photo, but if you used the same photo from last year you'd be disqualified anyway. This is clearly stated in the rules for DV2018. Under  instruction #7: ,"Submitting the same photograph that was submitted with last year’s entry (DV-2017) will result in disqualification. "

Guys i came across with the little blog there was info about the photos the system pay attentiom just the size of photo not the backround or the is this same photo or not i think there is another problem

I think you're talking about the photo validator. That just checks for technical specs on the photos submitted with the entry.

They have different photo software that scans all the entries to pick up (1) people entering duplicate entries for the same year (using this helps detect those who try get around it by "misspelling" names by one letter, etc) and (2) duplicate photos from last year. These all get disqualified.

...however that is a separate  issue from the problem re: checking entries.

Oh my God!. I used same photo each time for the past few years. That means even I got the confirmation no. after entry, it's been disqualified before result announced??

That's the assumption. In the past they just warned you needed to use a photo not older than 6 months. As I quoted above, this year the instructions were very specific that reusing the same photo will disqualify you, we understand that they updated  the photo software to check this too now. We know they've been using it to check for duplicate entries the past few years with facial recognition (also to check the applicant at interview is the same as the submitted photo - I could see the guy doing this at mine!).

All that the confirmation number you got tells you is that you were able to submit an entry - it doesn't in any way imply that the entry was acceptable in terms of eligibility etc.

you said that they updated the software to check the duplicate, so does it mean that if the photo is same as last year, it will prompt invalid photo?

If you mean wilk it prompt that when you submit the entry, no. The photo validator just checks your photo for technical specs, it doesn't compare it to anything else.

Once they have all the entries in and do an initial draw, they run their photo software to catch duplicate entries and, apparently now also, duplicate photos from previous years. These entries will all get disqualified. This is the reason there are so called "holes" in the case numbers - that is, not all case numbers are consecutive - because the ones that the computer can catch breaking the rules get disqualified before notifications are made.

Hi All

I am a South African citizen.

My husband applied for dv lottery 2018 last year, checked Status on the 2nd of May 2017. was taken to a page which said “ I was selected for further processing for dv lottery for 2018. I received a case number (2018AF0000XXXX). I tried to go on to the site to complete my forms online and it keeps giving me an error. Is there something wrong? How this affect my process in application of my visa? What can I do to rectify the problem?

Please advice me on how to proceed further. IS IT POSSIBLE THE CASE NUMBER IS WRONG? WILL I BE GIVEN ANOTHER CASE NUMBER IF THIS PROBEL PERSIST?

Hope is fading fast... PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!!

Regards, Lucy

Hey Lucy...fellow saffer here :)

calm down!! They've had some system glitches. You don't need to rush to fill in the DS so take a deep breath and try again in a day or so.
