As stated earlier in this thread, Oriental literally means from the East, so it could apply to anything (objects or people) that come from the East based on the observer's perspective.  I don't see a lot of derogatory meaning there, but it is an outdated word as from everyone's perspective it could literally mean anyone or anything with origins East of their vantage point.  People in California could refer to anyone or anything that comes from New York as Oriental.

Right. I am talking about the root controversy of using oriental to describe a person, rugs can be oriental, but calling someone from say China oriental was a slight, derogatory. That was before our time though, you know, when America was Great.

I don't worry about it, my wife nor any of my in-laws feel slighted about the word "oriental". It's funny how it's pretty much always white liberals who have to be offended for others.

I am offended you seem to believe I am offended. Just dropping some knowledge on the topic at hand. By the definitions of the traditional controversy McDonald's should have named their salad oriental salad, a thing, not Asian salad since it's not a person.

Stouffer's sells Mexican style lasagna. That must be even more racist than an Asian salad.

I don't even thing Stouffers is a Spanish name.
