This wait is frustrating....ROC

That sucks! And yes, these sorts of things are exactly what makes this process so frustrating. USCIS believes that since we are never "out-of-status" they can make the I-751 the very last priority. However, their own information is so unclear that every individual field office seems to interpret the rules differently, never mind border control, DMVs and employers.

If USCIS is going to continue taking this long to process applications (which I think is ridiculous, but it is what it is) then they need to be much more transparent about how it works, including making it easy for their own people and other government departments and employers and US, the actual applicants to clarify our status, travel, work, drive, and generally, continue to enjoy the rights we are entitled to as legal permanent residents.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. So far, the processing hasn't affected me in any major way, since Oregon gave me a regular driving license and I'm self-employed so I don't have to prove my status to an employer. And I've arranged to do my travelling prior to the "grey area" between the date on my letter and the date on my green card.

But I'm as aware as anyone that if I needed to travel unexpectedly (for a family emergency, say), after mid-August, I might wind up in a situation where I am detained while I explain USCIS' policies to border security. This is unacceptable!

Oregon here as well.  Looking at your timeline,  I suddenly realize I probably at least got a year to wait.  The application fee is up 20%. Can they speed up 20% as well?

I thought higher price is equal to better quality...

what is the big deal with having to wait for roc. you are a lpr before and a lpr after. you don't actually gain anything from it so there is no need to actually finish them. the people who are waiting for aos, citizenship, or even just to be able to come to this country have tons more to gain than someone who is waiting for roc to be finished. I am in the middle of the roc process so I am well aware of how long it takes. so please take a step back and realize you are already here and have your greencard and just deal with the waiting. uscis does not exist to just deal with only your issues and when they get strained for resources they will deprioritize petitions which such as roc that do not change a person's status so they can work on bringing family members to the us, granting them lpr status and even citizenship.

I really did not understand why some people are so impatient. I would look at posters complaining about the long wait, stop reading the post and just shake my head. I would tell myself that I'm in the same boat and I'm not complaining because I understand the process takes a while. Guess what? I was wrong. I wasn't in the same boat as those who were "complaining". As a matter of fact, a lot of them weren't just complaining. They had genuine concerns. A lot faced the possibility of losing their jobs, some had emergency travels and feared not being able to reenter the country among other things.

My employer did not verify my status when I was hired 13 years ago and still have not done so to this date. Thankfully, I live in New York,  one of the so called "Sanctuary Cities". The immigration laws here are almost never enforced against law abiding "citizens". They last time I renewed my driver's license I was illegal but had no problems. Some states give people a hard time to renew despite of the extension letter or I-551 stamp.

Bottomline - Life is harder for some during the ROC process.

btw applying for  citizenship does compel uscis to finish the roc.

I did this, I applied for citizenship with ROC still pending. So far it's been a month since they got my N400 package and still no word on ROC. I will let you know how "fast" they are compelled to finish my ROC with a N400 pending.
