What would my category be for I -765 form if I am a J1 (work and travel program participant) who legally entered the country and then married a US citizen?

Thank you so much! yes, I am also doing my AOS, it is my first time in this site, everything is new to me and seems really complicated, I am filling up the forms myself, I am really confused and overwhelmed, hopefully I will be done soon.

No worries... that form was particularly difficult.  I adjusted from a K1 and so I put the A6 bc it said K1, not reading that it meant K1 was an unexpired i94.

You can relax, sort of, once it's filed bc you just have to wait.

This community is amazing!  So much help from so many people, all with unique stories and experiences.  Was the best thing I found to help guide me through the process.  Lawyer fees for doing paperwork are crazy and with the support of people here, it's very feasible to do it yourself :-)

When you get it filed, you should join a thread for May filers at NBC (assuming you file this month) and that will help you track progress as users can update the thread with their progress :-)

Yes - there are so many little details.  If you can, print the instructions and just go line by line (that's what I did.)

USCIS received my package on 16th November.  I got the NOA1 on 2nd December and the biometrics appoint on 29th December.  I went in for infopass around 20th January to correct an issue on my form and then a whole lot of nothing until 7th April when I got notification it was approved.  A week after that I had the card in hand.  (I qualified for interview waiver)

It can take up to a year though.

Interesting! thanks for your kind response, may I ask what was your status before? In my case I entered the country as a J1 Work and Travel participant, I married my current husband (an US citizen) I see all the cases are really different, mine (I guess) is pretty common.

I came on a K1 visa as the foreign fiancée of a USC.  It's a non-immigrant visa with a dual intent to file for immigration benefits (AOS to PR) after marrying the USC who petitioned the visa for me within 90 days of entering the US.

Was the quickest way to be with him, but a longer waiting period inside the US before I could work.
