I've been told by many members here that once you filed N400 and your I-751 is still pending, USCIS is going to do a combo interview. I guess your approval proves that assumption is just that, assumption.

So there is hope that USCIS might approve ours (I-751) despite the fact that our N400 is still pending. :)

This is actually pretty exciting!  We're expecting no green card for my husband with his N400 pending, but maybe he'll get it in the meantime.  That'd be nice.  Also, we have a K2 who will still need his.

K1 Visa timeline:

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

02/01/2014 - mailed our petition

07/25/2014 - Johan arrives in Los Angeles!

*See updated timeline for specific dates.*

AOS timeline:~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

08/02/2014 - AOS, EAD, AP applications mailed.

11/17/2014 - K2 gets an interview waiver letter in the mail (dated November 12th) (K1 has never gotten this letter)

08/24/2015 - Green cards are FINALLY in hand after nearly 13 months of waiting.

ROC timeline: ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

05/01/2017 - ROC application sent

05/02/2017 - CSC receives our package

05/03/2017 - Official NOA1 date

05/10/2017 - MO cashed at our bank

05/12/2017 - NOA 1 is in the mailbox.

05/20/2017 - Biometrics letter in hand

05/31/2017 - biometrics appt (Oxnard, CA)

06/19/2018 - ROC still pending with no news but that wonky glitch back in February, so we went ahead and filed for citizenship

N-400 timeline: ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

06/19/2018 - N-400 application filed online

06/20/2018 - NOA1 received online for Naturalization application

Ugh. Despite sending in a giant packet of evidence, we got a RFE. I had expected it would say "here's what we think you need" but it just asks for the same kinds of evidence we sent in first time. We sent bank statements, tax records, beneficiary info, insurance documents, photos, etc. Will have to spend the weekend thinking up more stuff (I guess affidavits? More photos and such? We already sent almost all the financial documents... I can send 2017 tax records now too I guess)

I’m assuming you haven’t gotten your interview letter yet.

Once it comes in, it’ll have all the details such as date, time, what you should take with you, etc.

Don't worry about it. It’ll probably be okay.

Sometimes the scheduling doesn’t have to do with lack of evidence provided per say, but rather with how your local office processes most cases.

Does anyone know if it is possible to make an Infopass appointment to inquire about _why_ you received an RFE? Ours just says to send evidence of bona-fide marriage, but since (as I mentioned) we already sent evidence in every requested category, I'm not at all sure what we can send that will fix the situation. I had hoped they would say _why_ in the RFE...

But I suspect the answer is no, as the officer would not be aware of why the reviewer gave us an RFE. So I guess there is not much to do... just resend some of the same stuff? Only new hting I can think of is affidavits and one more year tax return..

I think it says somewhere in the letter 'do not send the same evidence you have previously sent."

@frontgear Not necessarily, it's a timing issue more than anything as evidenced with @blackknight1609 and several others. Based on what I see, if you apply for your N-400 within a month of your case adjudication they are treated seperately and not subject to a combo interview.

We filed our N400 back in May so, hopefully, our I-751 won't get combined with N400 interview. We're not holding our breath though :)

@frontgearSay you filed for your N-400 late July/August , you certainly would've been safe. I believe once you submit your application, they schedule you for biometrics and proceed to perform a background investigation at the NBC in Missouri. Once that is complete, is when they proceed to move your file (N-400 and/or open I-751) to the local field office.

That's why I mentioned the timing aspect, when to proceed to push your application is when they check if your I-751 has been adjudicated or not.

Again treat all of this with a grain of salt, this is what I've deduced and inferred based on the timelines I have read :)

Normally they do random interview not because there is something wrong on your application but to do some compliance on their process that requires some random interview.

Just be ready on your interview and bring all the evidences that you sent to them and the most recent evidences you have because I'm pretty sure they will ask for the most updated ones.

Good luck and :)

You answered your question, and yes you cannot ask why they sent you RFE. RFE is way better than interview since interview is more prone to mistakes.

I believe it was listed on the RFE all the USCIS were asking. Just provide all of those evidences and explain to them in writing just in case you don't have the evidences that they were asking, for them to know why you don't have it.

Good luck!
