Not exactly true.   Your visa will have an expiration date of 6 months after your medical. 

 

For example,  if you have your medical on January 1st and they issue your visa on April 1st- your visa will only be valid until July 1st.  You would have to travel before then. 

 

If you have your medical on April 1st and you're approved and issued a visa April 25th, you'll have until October 25th to travel. 

 

So the best way if you need extra time before traveling is to complete your medical as close to your interview date as possible to still receive your results on time for the interview.

if you are planning to work, then you should consider that after your arrival, and after get marry ( before 90 days), you should file your AOS, you can file for your work authorization at the same time, but you should add approximately 3 month to receive your ead. but you will be allowed to work before your Approval is status
