I am wondering if we should update the sheet to see if applications are currently moving faster or not - and to get a feeling for any changes?

Not sure "who owns" the spreadsheet.

I believe anyone can edit this sheet, I have only noticed a few recent DC filers on this forum. But I'm sure there're a lot more filers from our local office.

I had created that sheet, but it is public for anyone to edit. I did put details based on other monthly forums and anyone can do it. However, it is up  to members to update their details. It provides valuable guidance as to how long it is going to take to plan your life, vacations or anything. Number of days passed are fairly consistent for same field office.

I encourage silent followers of the  forum to put their details as it is only fair if you benefit from the data.

My husband’s naturalization interview was yesterday at the Washington Field office. I went along with him for moral support, The appointment time was at 8:20am but my husband got called in a bit earlier, He passed his civics, reading and writting tests. The IO was very polite and friendly and went through the application. My husband had to correct a few things and the IO happily made the changes. At the end, the officer stated she was a new employee and was unable to make a decision, she had to submit it to

her supervisor for final review. All they requested was our bank statements, we took a few other documents to show we are in a bonafide relationship but they did not need it.

At the end she handed a paper checking off the box for passed civics test and also the decision cannot be made box.

Over all it was a positive yet nerve wrecking experience. When we came home, I checked the status and it had said “you attended your interview. Please wait while we continue to review your application”. We applied based on the 3 year rule. No long trips outside the US , no issues with the the law. Should there be a concern at this time? All the IO states was that she was new and she had to get final review from her supervisor.

Any comments? Thoughts?

All,

Virginia resident here, my interview has been scheduled.  I was wondering about the documents i need to take along with me for the interview?.  In the interview letter they asked me to bring GC, passport and original documents attached when i filed N-400. In this forum, i have seen people carrying W-2, bank statements etc..so, i am confused. My application is based on employment (5 years). I really appreciate your reply.

Hi, You need to take all the stuff mentioned in your letter and apart from that, take last 3 years tax filing docs and IRS return transcripts. If you submitted any additional docs during appln, you need to carry originals of those with you.

HTH.

You aren't the first to have an interview with the new employee that is unable to make a decision.  My husband had his interview over 2 months ago and was told the exact same thing.  His I-751 is still pending and his N-400 is seemingly approved.

I expect this to drag on for many months to come...

Online status hasn't changed since his interview.  And for whatever reason, we can't get any online status of his I-751.  When we put the case number in is says there is no information available.

My husband made an appointment and got the I-551 stamp in his passport since we need to travel out of the country and it is now past his 18 month GC extension.

The fun never ends!

Exactly the same in November Father In Law was told he had passed but his had to be checked by a supervisor absolutely no progress as we approach 2 months since the interview, we even asked when my Mother-In-Law oath ceremony was cancelled in December still no news. I will update as soon as anything changes.

Hi,

I just had my interview today in Fairfax. Everything went great except that I've been handed a letter that says "decision cannot be made at this time" as the officer is waiting to review/receive my A-file.

He asked me to wait about 45 days. Has anyone experienced anything similar, if so, how long did you wait? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to ask everyone who hasn't updated the google sheet to do so as it helps everyone else down the road.

From all your experiences, it sounds as if the majority of people got interviewed by a new member of their staff? Is it such a small office?

Have you gotten any updates recently?

InsanelyOne Not sure if you have had any updates as you where before my Father In Law by about 10 days?

Yesterday his status changed to inline for Oath Ceremony but no date.

Mother in law has her oath ceremony scheduled for February but would really like to do it together?

Thanks, It was approved couple of days later. But it still was stressful for those 2 days, as I found folks with longer times online...

Anyways, they also scheduled my Oath ceremony and sent out the mail. I haven't received it yet.

My interview experience was good. I arrived 90 minutes early and waited for half hour past my scheduled time to be called in.

After swearing in that i speak truth only, he started with the interview, He asked for my GC, DL and passport(current and past ones).

First was writing test, then was reading test and then civics exam. After passing all those, he went over my application asking some q's

and went to yes/no section. I had couple of minor traffic tickets which was mentioned in my appln but he didnt care.

Also, he asked q's that are way beyond past five years, just a heads up.

I mentioned that a small change in my application and he took the details on a piece of paper.

Then he asked to verify my details on screen for naturalization letter and sign few times on the ipad.

He said that's it and handed me a letter that i passed the test but a decision couldn't be made as he is still waiting to review my A-file.

Informed me that it might take 45 days or so. I thanked him and left with the letter. It took may be 15 mins for the interview.

My advise, you take anything that matters, I took IRS transcripts for last 5 years, traffic citation receipts and most importantly is to go over

your application one more time and let the IO know of any changes however minor they are.

Decision cannot made is very common and don't worry about it. I've seen my friend who got approved same time but his status got updated

3 weeks later. I hope you have a much better experience and good luck.

Let me know if you need any more info...
