I am probably asking a stupid question but a previous student visa is not an immigrant visa, correct? So we do not tick "yes" on the I-130 form asking for previous immigration proceedings or should I?

 

My guess is "no" but I just want to double check with you.

Yes however, the k1 is referred to as an immigrant visa by some.

A K-1 is a non-immigrant visa.  People incorrectly refer to it as an immigrant visa because it allows a person to adjust status.  If you have to adjust status, then you didn't come in on an immigrant visa.

It's a non-immigrant visa that allows immigrant intent. Confusingly, many (most?) consulates group it as a immigrant visa for processing.
