Congratulations and thank you for the nfo.

Did you call in the Inquiry or opened it online? I'm looking at the online version and it states that I should wait 6mos, should I ignore it and file anyway?

My fiance opened in a call. But I don't think there is any difference. I really don't know, but I assume both methods should work the same way. My fiance did it in a call only because he wanted to call anyway (hoping to hear good news).

My fiance said that calling them is kinda stressful... you talk to a computer for a while and when you get to talk to someone, it's always the same script. This was the first time he mentioned opening the Inquiry and the officer gently did it for us. He also got an Inquiry number to follow up with if necessary.

If you can go ahead and open the Inquiry online, why not? But if there is some sort of thereshold in the system that won't allow you to do so unless you passed 6 mo, then maybe you should consider calling. We were very close to the 6mo mark (176 days when the Inquiry was opened).

I hope the information can help. Good luck! :)

Guys I have a question that has  een on my mind for a while now and maybe some of you can help me.

my name is Ana Elisa, and this is my given name in my country, theres no such thingg as middle name here, so I cannot change that! I have my father last name, but I don't have any contact to him at all, so I would like to cut it off. In Brazil, we just add last names when girls get married,so you have like 2-3 last names.

can I just simply cut it off and only have my fiance last name? If I decide ti keep it, is there a way? Would have to use a "-" between the two last names? I'm confused lol

I assume you're asking for the purpose of how you want her married name to be after you guys get married.

You can just take your fiancé's last name since he is American. My father is Dominican and my mother is American, but my last name is just his last name. When I get married to my fiancé, I'm gonna take his name only.

It's not necessary to have 2 last names here but you can if you want. Just have to be consistent with all your proper identification.

ROC Filing:

4/21/2021 - Sent ROC Package via FedEx

4/22/2021 - FedEx package delivered and signed

5/11/2021 - Check cashed

5/14/2021 - Received NOA1 via mail (NOA1 date: 5/8/2021)

6/9/2021 -  Biometrics waived - Case updated to Fingerprints taken

For those of you who follow USCIS on Twitter, they will be having a #AskUSCIS open session tomorrow.

Maybe it’ll mention why the app is down as well... maintenance perhaps?

P.S. I don’t have Twitter but saw it posted somewhere about 45 minutes ago that they’re doing a Q and A tomorrow

I submitted mine online at 162 days and it worked. A month ago the software rejected it. So try it now, I did not have to wait 180 days. The status reply said they would respond by 11/30 which, in my case, just happens to be 6 months.

I wouldn't change your Brazilian documents as that is your country of birth and should remain the same should something important happens where you need to validate your identity in Brazil.

Here in the U.S. is different. For example, after my mom divorce, she decided to keep her married last name as all her important documents had that name and she didn't want to go through the hassle of getting everything changed back over to her maiden name.

When you come to the US, you're gonna apply for your SSN#. Make sure you remember after you get married to re-apply for the SSN# with the name change with your married name if you intend to open accounts and have other important documentation used with your married name.

Yeah, maybe leaving my brazilian documents as they are and always having a copy of our marriage certificate would be better!!

thanks for the advice and explanations ;)

Great idea:)

@AK&JO

Google voice is really cheap at 1 cent per minute. Skype is a bit more expensive at 2.3 cents per minute.

Google voice is super easy, you can call from your laptop - at least the battery will not die while you wait :) Call quality is excellent.

I hope this helps.

This is not very clear to me either! It will be almost impossible to change my last name in Italy...how does that work?

I heard if I don't take my fiancé's Immigration will think I'm a fraud, if I do I think I'll go crazy with Italian bureaucracy

***Waiting for interview***
