this would be absolutely not fair, acceptable or appropriate. I honestly never thought of that, but now the way you just wrote it, who knows!

at this point, nothing would surprise me, but again, it would be absolutely not appropriate! :(

PS: still thinking numbers. average 3.5k files per month x USD 535 = USD 1.872.500 !!! and yet, no progress :(

I know I think the same. I just remembered us joking about my dads name and would that cause us to take longer. Not because it is a thing, but because of similar names possibly being in a database. It's more like they touched it. It's just the background checks are taking longer; is what I'm thinking. They are doing the same checks to everyone. And easier cases goes around faster, you know no divorce, no criminal record, no child. These are easier cases to approve maybe? So it is a mix overall...

i really don't know it's just a guess. And yes totally unfair.

I don't want to believe it, as I believe in the good and I hope they would hire neutral people like they need neutral people in a jury duty!

this isn't about colors or races, this is about love! we all don't choose who we love, but luckily, we found THE ONE!

so all we want is to be with our loved ones.

I don't think it's about the employees actually or what they believe.

like think about a huge database(more than one) and similar names in it.

Most Muslim countries use extremely similar names with small changes. Like the name Mohammed for example we have 2 different ways in Turkey for it. But because a lot of people prefer these similar names or have a similar last name, the hit number would be higher. Even though it would just be partial hit. They could be checking for example any connections if it is a family name. Same goes for if your name is John Smith, imagine the hits coming. So I don't think it is about diversity or racism or any of those. It is just about the databases.

I'm so so so sorry really.

I dont want to say or think this but everytime someone says something like this I'm checking the countries. It's mostly Iran or Islamabad or such. You know where I'm going... (please believe me from the depth of my heart I, by no means, mean anything bad here) but do you guys think the background check are taking longer for thes it on my behalf. they also told me that it will not be a factor at the uscis stagee countries? Not that they are separating from the bunch but just taking longer.

1) names we use (as a Turkish person my name is old Turkish but I know most of our names are similar with Arabic and Persian and end up being similar with you know what)

2) last names

3) family background checks (literally my fathers middle name is ekber so I was wondering about this a while)

4) family and such connections check

these may alone cause a little bit of more time for process?

I'm sorry if I offend anyone. This is just a theory 😐

@K-1Applicant2017 can you check your similar timelines? How long other people with your country takes for example? I don't know if it shows. But just to give you some relief maybe. Cause they are approving it just seems like a little later than the rest

No, you're probably right and I have the same suspicion. Fortunately, looking at other iranian timelines, it looks to me like we have the same USCIS processing time as everyone else.I reached out to my house representative office who inquired about it on my behalf. He also told me that it should not be an issues. Mind you, I take what they say with a huge grain of salt because no government official is dumb enough to openly talk about any internal procedure that may be seen as discriminatory.

In general, and unlike most other applicants, we tend to get very long AP at the NVC or post interview stage which I am hoping to avoid by front loading much of the information they want at the interview stage (social media handles, email address's, sibling and parent info, etc.).

No offense taken. Just an unfortunate reality today.

Nothing worth having ever came easy!

Touching May 15th, I wasn't expecting this for another week or so. Now my anxiety will be increasing to higher levels and going into this weekend of quietness and hoping for a noisy Monday. Getting close and still have hope before the end of the year to be together.  Trying to get all necessary things together and ready. Our petition was front loaded and was worried about dates of items expiring. Seems like our Embassy has a 1 year validity to them.  I have confirmed this with the embassy website as well as our attorney. Stress, Anxiety, separation,  grey hairs coming in, oh my I can't wait to get out of "K1 Jail"....USCIS release us and set us free....  I know another day closer but also another day longer...Sooner than later or sooner or later, hurry up and wait and then wait some more... yada, yada, yada.....:P

This is almost funny at this point.. My receipt number is WAC1790327977. 76 and 78 have been touched as if carefully plucked by tweezer not to disturb my 77..

at this point, I keep daydreaming that DJ khaled is saying "THEY DONT WANT YOU TO BE APPROVED" in my ear.

DJ Khaled? He would say..."WAC1790327977?...pick ANOTHA ONE!"

I think me and you are the same date or so.

I'm Italian, from who knows how many italian generations before mine, super Italian name and last name, my fiancè it's 100% American born in the US, 100% US family. And today is day number 168!

I don't think it really matters, also because if it would, probably in the US it would be very bad, they do everything to avoid racism and discrimination, so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do it unless they see something wrong in the application like any other application.

Then, if the new travel ban changed the way they have to look at it I don't think anybody can know outside the office!

hope they really don't, that would be so bad!

Commonness of the name yes probably, but the hits a name like Ahmed or Mohammed can get is a little different. Again it's not about racism. It's about the profile of the database. And not just this but for example I just said Ahmed but his name actually goes as Ahmet, Ahmad... so similar yet different versions. This search on a criminal database right now would most likely to hit more problemous cases than an Italian name (again it is an automated thing not about racism)

however on this of that these countries already has a long AP...

which I am wishing none of the above is true and I'm just overthinking!

I undrestand...but what I meant is...I'm waiting the same amount of time (or we will see, maybe more) than people with that problem, even if I have an Italian name that doesn't give that issue on criminal database, so I understand why you are getting worried, but I think you are overthinking...

The good part is, you overthink or you don't, it won't change anything, so better be relaxed, that helps the long wait! ;)

That said, I'm probably overthinking more than you :D about every little thing, to me it sounds like everything everybody else put in the filing package I didn't put it! :D
