Travelling with AP Experiences

Hello all!

 

My husband received his AP/EAD combo card in the mail today and is obviously elated  We booked tickets to go to the Netherlands in June to visit his family and meet our brand new nephew! I was wondering how everyone's experience was in regards to travelling on an AP and how smooth or difficult it was to get back into the country. I'm a little nervous after reading that the AP doesn't guarantee admission in the U.S.

Nothing guarantees admission to the US except being a USC. That said,I don't see any issues with your travel plans.

It was really no problem at all. When arriving at DTW, my fingerprints and picture was taken in the regular line. Then I was taken to secondary to register the arrival on AP. They advised that it was standard procedure and nothing to worry about.

 

The most difficult part was checking into the flight/going through security pre-screening in AMS, because not all airlines have a category for AP in their computer system. However, it was not a problem.

When you are returning to the US using AP (no GC yet, but under AOS) with your USC spouse, which line do you make: the USC/PR line with your spouse, or in the visa/visa waiver line without your spouse?

Whenever we have come back and my wife is with me she uses the USC/PR line, even when she was in AP she used that as well. Keep it simple and do not over think things please.
