My I-129 was just approved.  Do I have to wait for everything to get passed to the NVC and then to the Embassy before I start doing the DS-160 online and also making an appointment for the interview? Can I just do the DS-160 now and make an appointment for an interview?

The foreign fiance needs to do the DS-160. You can start it now, but you usually want to enter the USCIS number on the form although you can technically use the receipt number as well.

You can't schedule an interview without your NVC number and without the interview scheduled you can't go do your medical. So basically you have to wait for the NVC number. While you wait get the rest of the paperwork together. Affidavit of support and all that kind of stuff.

Got it

Thanks!

Can you tell me what packet 3 is all about?  What is in it?  The one that gets sent to her from the Embassy.

Packet 3 basically tells you what you'll need to bring to the interview. Lots of people never even get it. So what you want to do is find it online. It says you're in Vietnam correct? I may be able to find it I'll do a quick search and see if I can.

Yes she is in Vietnam.  Thank you so much!!

So really the only thing you send before the interview is the DS 160 confirmation page with photos and a copy of the passport.  And everything else you bring to the interview.

Well my fiance is in the Philippines. Basically you schedule the interview then bring your interview confirmation to the medical. The Ds160 is online and when you complete it you print off a confirmation page. You bring it to the interview as well.

So, once you get your NVC case number schedule the interview, then you can do the medical. (which has to be done first, but you have to schedule the interview before they'll let you do the medical)

For the interview you'll bring all the stuff listed on that packet. You can never bring too much extra either. If it's not needed they'll just ignore it, however, if you need it and don't have it you'll have issues.

Good luck!!! I'm actually waiting for my NVC number too, so I'm in the exact same boat as you.
