That's kind of it. The theory is actually that, if you take the example of a cat in a box, if the box is sealed and no one at all knows whether the cat is dead or alive, then it is both at the same time. Because it is neither. It can't be until it is observed. It's in a state of - wait for it - "superposition." The act of observing it/measuring it, makes it one or the other. But until it is know, the cat is in both states. Who ever observes it, interferes with it. Observation determines the outcome, sorta. It's kinda related to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle as well. It's all in quantum physics.

The bottom line: the act of observing changes something. And until you know, you don't know, and therefore, the thing is both.

we are in that box already ... at least that is how I feel. And every morning I log on into CRIS I ask myself "Am I gonna be dead or alive today?". And now it is even more complicated because when I look at the cat (i.e. myself represented by my case status) and it looks dead it still might be alive since the online databse stopped functioning.

It's a weird theory that Schroedinger wrote about the state of a dead cat and an alive cat. When you see both cats in one space you only see one cat at a time "dead cat" and "alive cat" but you never see the mixture of both states.

Something like that. I guess it's a combo of ½ full, ½ empty but never both at the same time. Ok, I just got dizzy.
