I live in Seattle, WA and my girlfriend lives in London, UK and we are trying to see our options for being together, without necessarily getting married immediately. We are both willing to move for the other, and she is from Australia so we are looking somewhere in either the US, UK or Australia. We have looked a lot of options, but it essentially keeps boiling down to we have to get married to be able to live in the same country together permanently. Also, we both work for companies that I dont believe have sponsorship licenses.

Does anyone know of immigration laws that would allow us to be together, in any of those countries? We are open to most options. We've looked into farm work in Australia. Weve looked into the E3 visa here in the states, but it doesnt apply to her since her job isnt specialized enough. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you're not ready for marriage, it will be tough bc the only real option would be a student visa, however don't just jump into a marriage for the sake of a visa as that may end up disastrous.

It's tough when you find a partner from another country.

I *think* Canada is pretty lax (relatively speaking) for temporary residents.  Especially in areas like Banff, Alberta for the tourism industry, but that means having to take a job in that field.

I spent about 6 months there (I'm Canadian) and met a lot of Australians who were there working.

Not sure what the requirements are, but may be an option for you guys until you decide you're ready for marriage.

I've lived in Oz before and am surprised that she doesn't know how easy it is to get your significant other to stay there. You, as an American can easily get a Working Holiday Visa which allows you to work and travel in Oz for one year with the option of extending for another year if you do additional 3 months of agriculture work in your first year. However the latter you won't even be required to do because if you can prove to immigration that you lived with your girlfriend for a period of 6 months she can get you a permanent resident visa. All you have to do is to show that you shared living space together (have electricity bills together, maybe even lease agreement etc.). I met couples in Oz that have been doing that for years telling me that all you have to is to prove that you live together and are a couple. After a certain amount of time you can have these conditions lifted and became an Australian citizen and all that without being married. I met couples though that never even got Citizenship for their foreign partner and just proved for 20 years constantly to immigration that they are a couple. I don't know exactly what this was called but look it up. I know someone from my Highschool who did the exact same thing what I just described. First WH visa and then that partner visa (think it's called sponsorship visa just not with an employer but partner).
